Radiology Trainee – Cardiovascular Sonography Student
Join UNC Health as a second‑year cardiovascular sonography student. The role provides direct oversight while performing radiological procedures and supporting fluoroscopic exams. This position is available as a per diem internship.
Responsibilities
Prepare patients for procedures: identify patients using two identifiers, document pregnancy status, record clinical indications, maintain accurate patient records.
Produce diagnostic quality exams: set technical factors, position patients, execute exams efficiently, maintain competency in sterile surgical imaging, perform portable machine exams in the ER and on floor units, identify knowledge limits to avoid unnecessary errors.
Ensure radiation safety: shield patients, minimize repeats, adhere to ALARA principles, follow NPSG protocols, respond to emergencies, maintain infection control.
Assist radiologist during fluoroscopic procedures: set up rooms with required supplies.
Maintain competency through education: attend in‑service classes, maintain "in good standing" status, stay informed of departmental policy changes, meet deadlines for educational reviews.
Communicate effectively with patients of all ages and convey technical limitations to supervising personnel.
Education Requirements
High school graduate or GED.
Currently enrolled in an AMA‑approved radiologic technology program.
Second‑level student, in good standing with curriculum.
Licensure / Certification Requirements
