Base pay range $64,221.00/yr - $100,449.00/yr
Summary The Pricing & Merchandising Analyst supports multiple functions within Merchandising by providing actionable data‑driven insights focused on sales and gross profit objectives. Communicate effectively with other functional areas of the company regarding everyday pricing. The efficient flow of information between category teams, accounting, retail operations and retail systems is critical to the accurate delivery of pricing while maintaining category sales and margin objectives.
Position located in either Buffalo, NY or Schenectady, NY
Essentials Duties and Responsibilities
Train, coach and counsel all Category Team associates in all areas of pricing; educate department associates on pricing goals and objectives. Participate in team meetings on a regular basis to promote information sharing.
Assist Category Teams in achieving gross profit goals relative to budgeted objectives through weekly pricing activities, including competitive pricing, product cost changes, trade fund analysis and MicroStrategy reports.
Monitor and measure performance of key metrics and trends for assigned categories.
Assist in category plan development utilizing price index targets vs competition and key performance metric trends, working cooperatively with other departments to meet overall company objectives.
Understand and work with systems that deliver pricing and data to the stores (DemandTec, MIC, Bonus Card, Retail Systems, MicroStrategy, etc.) to enable better decision‑making.
Weekly review of competitor price changes and cost changes, implementing retail changes to stay within category objectives and maintain CPI.
Complete weekly audits of trade funds, costs and retail to ensure pricing accuracy and maximize profits.
Complete and implement all regulatory and specialized pricing, including cigarettes, DSD soda, DSD milk, DSD bread, DSD beer/wine and specialty/gourmet products.
Investigate and resolve discrepancies related to cost, retail and billbacks to maintain accurate margin reporting.
Analyze market price trends and third‑party data to ensure competitive product pricing, managing electronic files of competitive data properly.
Produce periodic monitoring and billing reports for the Pricing Manager to track goal progress and support Sarbanes‑Oxley compliance.
Minimum Qualifications
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to integrate information from multiple data sources to identify opportunities and solve problems.
Self‑starter, detail‑oriented, highly organized, and capable of multitasking in a fast‑paced, evolving role.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, capable of explaining technical information simply to a broad audience and persuading others.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Business/Marketing or related field preferred; knowledge from specialized training, market research experience, and additional job experience a plus.
3–5 years of experience in statistics/marketing analytics or related roles; familiarity with market data platforms.
