General Summary

We are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Repair Mechanic to join our construction equipment maintenance team. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy construction machinery. This role is critical to ensuring our equipment fleet operates safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime. Essential Job Accountabilities

Perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on heavy construction equipment, including excavators, dozers, loaders, graders, and cranes Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, electrical, powertrain, and engine systems Conduct inspections to identify potential issues and recommend corrective actions Use OEM diagnostic software and tools to identify and resolve equipment faults Complete detailed service reports, work orders, and parts requests accurately and on time Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in compliance with company, OSHA, and safety standards Perform field repairs or on-site service calls as required Open, clear and consistent communication with project management to schedule repairs and maintenance items Maintain or improve upon existing vendor relationships, honoring Granite’s core values Minimum Requirements

Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience maintaining and repairing construction equipment (Caterpillar, Komatsu, John Deere, Case, Volvo, Hitachi, or similar) Technical or vocational certification, OEM Training in Heavy Equipment Technology, or Diesel Mechanics preferred Experience using diagnostic tools and electronic service software Competent in welding and fabrication Ability to read and interpret schematics, service manuals, and hydraulic diagrams Must possess a valid driver’s license; CDL Class A or B preferred Managed or supervised equipment maintenance staff Strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship Ability to lift and handle heavy components and work in outdoor or shop environments Excellent communication and teamwork skills Must be able to supply basic mechanic’s hand tools Education

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experience Certification

Associate\'s degree or professional certification Work Experience

A least 7 years of related experience, expertise with tools and techniques Preferred Qualifications

Factory-certified training from major OEMs (e.g., Caterpillar Level II/III, Komatsu Certified Technician, John Deere Certified Technician) Advanced diagnostic experience with OEM software such as CAT ET, Service ADVISOR, or KOMTRAX Experience servicing Tier 4 Final engines and telematics systems Prior lead or mentoring experience in a shop or field environment Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs and fleet tracking systems Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills focused on equipment reliability Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Extensive knowledge of diesel engines and construction equipment Requires specialized knowledge attained through experience and education Responsible for individual productivity and quality of work Certification as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic Proven work experience as a Diesel or Heavy Equipment Mechanic Understanding of computer testing technologies Ability to lift heavy machinery About Granite Construction Incorporated
