The Position The Department of Environmental Protection is seeking professionals experienced in the natural gas and oil sectors to join our team. As the oil and gas industry evolves, the Bureau of Oil and Gas is leading the way in adapting to these changes. Description of Work You will be responsible for monitoring and compliance activities, conducting reviews within a designated geographic area, and enforcing key regulations and specific chapters of the Environmental Quality Board's Rules and Regulations. You will:
Perform field inspections of oil and gas wells throughout all lifecycle stages—drilling, production, alteration, inactivity, and plugging—across coal and non‑coal areas, conservation wells and gas storage reservoirs.
Ensure compliance with relevant laws, verify the validity of permits, and confirm drilling occurs at locations specified in plat maps.
Investigate spills or gas releases, consult permits and well records, collect samples and data, and document site conditions through photographs and videos.
Complete and file inspection reports, enter results into the eFACTS system, and send copies to operators. Follow‑up actions will be taken as needed.
Inspect proposed school sites for potential hazards related to active or abandoned oil and gas wells, pits, or equipment.
Work Schedule and Additional Information
Full‑time employment
Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch
Telework: You may work from home full‑time if you have a securely configured high‑speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you may report to the headquarters office in Scranton. Telework eligibility is subject to change at any time.
Salary: Selected candidates will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $59,345 (before taxes).

Qualifications Required Experience, Training & Eligibility
Three years of technical experience in well design, drilling, completion, production, plugging, or underground storage operations in the oil or natural gas industry; or
An associate’s degree in Petroleum Technology or a closely related field, and one year of technical experience in well design, drilling, completion, production, plugging, or underground storage operations in the oil or natural gas industry.
Special Requirements
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Other Requirements
PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
