Responsibilities
Prepare or direct the preparation of design documents, system layouts, detailed drawings, schematics, and specifications.
Lead project and design efforts from concept through completion.
Review shop drawings for conformance to plans and specifications.
Research and recommend feasibility of systems or equipment, evaluating product applications.
Provide solutions to complex engineering problems and design challenges, either directly or in an advisory capacity.
Ensure drawings, specifications, reports, and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements.
Advise and mentor less experienced designers and engineers, providing oversight and technical guidance.
Direct technical and administrative staff activities as needed.
Continuously develop personal knowledge and share expertise with the team.
Assist Technical Managers and Directors in establishing goals, policies, objectives, and standards at the practice or sector level.
Participate in the development of tools, resources, and company practices.
Implement and reinforce design and engineering standards.
Oversee project and design quality through review processes and regular check‑ins.
Lead the development and maintenance of relationships with strategic partners and customers to expand business opportunities.
Participate in client, company, and industry events to build professional relationships.
Foster a client‑centric mindset within the team.
Communicate with clients on requirements, scope, and project coordination, maintaining proactive communication throughout the project cycle.
Anticipate and answer questions from clients and architects, acting as a resource for fact‑finding.
Visit job sites to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress.
Resolve conflicts involving owners, architects, and contractors as needed.
Perform a range of project management responsibilities in collaboration with experienced project managers.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, fire protection, or architectural engineering preferred, with 11 years of relevant experience, or 13 years of experience without a degree.
Advanced knowledge and proficiency in engineering design, A&E industry, codes, design guides, and standards for a broad range of practices and projects (required).
Knowledge of earned value, contracts, and construction processes and methods (required).
Proficiency in Revit and Bluebeam Revu (required).
Professional Engineering (PE) license (required).
Completion of the FE exam, LEED or WELL accreditation highly preferred.
High technical aptitude and ability to learn and utilize various systems and processes.
Comfortable with training others on systems and processes.
Effective verbal and written communication skills; clear and concise communication with designers at all levels.
Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
Team‑oriented with willingness and ability to function in a highly collaborative environment, leading less experienced designers.
Adaptability to changing work environments, priorities, and organizational needs.
Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
Ability to give and receive constructive feedback and adjust to coaching.
