The STEAM Area Supervisor supports the STEAM Director in facilitating engaging, hands‑on STEM activities for Club Members. This position is responsible for assisting in program delivery, equipment maintenance, and ensuring a safe, clean, and inspiring learning environment.
Job Responsibilities
Assist other staff and the Program Director with tasks such as tournaments, supervision, hallway duty, rules, and Club policies.
Attend mandatory training and staff meetings.
Implement Director‑designed STEM activities with Club Members.
Assist in maintaining, cleaning, and organizing all lab and program equipment.
Support Members in proper and safe usage of lab tools, materials, and technology.
Assist the Director in delivering programs or take the lead in their absence as directed.
Perform daily closing duties, including preparing overnight 3D print jobs, securing chemicals and materials, wiping down equipment, screens, and work areas, and ensuring the lab is locked and organized.
Program Areas and Activities
The Printworks: Worksheets, packets, and 3D printing projects
Magic: The Gathering: Strategy and gameplay sessions
Digital Audio Workstations: Music creation and editing
Technology in the Lab: Virtual Reality (VR), tablets, laptops, and related tech
Flora and Fauna: Care and maintenance of plants, fish, and small animals
Minecraft: Guided creative and educational play
Job Minimum Requirements
Must be at least 15 years of age or older.
Ability to pass criminal background screening.
Ability to participate in behavior management and curriculum development.
Ability and willingness to mentor and help others learn and succeed.
Consistently display good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills in a customer‑friendly approach.
Demonstrated ability to work with young people, parents, and colleagues.
Ability to consistently remain calm, focused, and professional in a large group and/or high‑stress situation caused by conflict, difficult members, or parents.
Ability to be flexible with base hours as assigned by the assigned supervisor to ensure coverage of all open hours of operation of the Union St. Clubhouse. Sustain regular attendance.
JOB DEMANDS/PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT
Actively supervise and participate in recreational, athletic, and educational activities, both indoors and outdoors.
Stand, walk, run, and engage in physical play for extended periods (4‑8 hours).
Respond quickly and appropriately in emergencies, including the ability to move swiftly to ensure the safety of members.
Maintain energy and alertness throughout extended shifts, often in a loud or high‑energy setting.
Work in various environments, including gymnasiums, playgrounds, classrooms, and outdoor fields.
Lift and carry supplies or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Perform basic physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, reaching, and climbing stairs.
Using general office equipment, including phones, copiers, and computer equipment.
This position operates primarily in a dynamic, interactive lab setting. The role involves frequent interaction with children and exposure to technology, digital tools, and creative materials.
