Position Summary CG Generalist, Sr
is the "Swiss Army Knife" of the production team, responsible for executing a diverse array of 3D tasks with a high degree of adaptability. This role requires a broad and deep understanding of the entire VFX pipeline, from initial asset creation to final rendering. The Generalist must be able to pivot quickly between artistic disciplines—such as modeling, lookdev, and lighting—while maintaining technical efficiency and aesthetic excellence across multiple projects.
Main Duties The CG Generalist, Sr is responsible for multi‑disciplinary asset creation, executing high‑quality 3D tasks including hard‑surface modeling, texturing, shading, and look development for environments, vehicles, and props. Shot execution and lighting, driving the creative and technical setup of shots within Houdini, utilizing Mantra and Karma to deliver optimized, high‑fidelity renders. As well as sequence look development, assisting in establishing the visual language of a sequence, ensuring that all assets are consistent in look, feel, and technical integration. They will also be responsible for the following:
Technical Setup & Optimization:
Create assets that are visually stunning but also technically "clean"—ensuring ease of use for other departments, optimized render times, and efficient memory usage.
Animation & FX Support:
Provide support for basic animation, tracking, and effects (FX) simulations as required.
Asset Management & Publishing:
Oversee the publishing of assets into the pipeline, ensuring downstream departments can utilize them without friction.
Quality Control (QC):
Review and QC the lighting and technical setups of other Houdini TDs to ensure best practices and consistent render methodologies.
Compositing Collaboration:
Work with Compositors to ensure render passes are efficient, organized, and contain necessary AOVs for a seamless final grade.
Pipeline Adaptability:
Pivot between roles, software packages, and projects as priorities shift, maintaining high quality.
What You Bring The ideal candidate will have proven studio experience, with solid professional experience as a CG Generalist within a VFX studio environment, and a portfolio showcasing a mix of character, mechanical, and environment work. Advanced knowledge of Houdini (lookdev, shot lighting, rendering with Mantra and Karma) and proficiency in Maya, Substance Suite, ZBrush, Mari, Nuke, ShotGrid. Additional desired skills include:
Pipeline Fluency:
Understanding of the end‑to‑end CG pipeline and ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
Time Management:
Ability to balance high‑quality output with strict deadlines.
Artistic Eye:
Strong background in traditional art fundamentals (light, color, composition, anatomy).
