The Operational Excellence Manager will apply Lean Manufacturing and other continuous improvement initiatives to manage the physical infrastructure of the plant and its equipment. This includes the design, installation, operation, maintenance, modification, construction, safety, and protection of the physical facilities and equipment used to manufacture technologically sophisticated products.
Company Background Headquartered in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, Howmet Aerospace Inc. (“Howmet”) is listed on the New York Stock Exchange (symbol: HWM) with $6.6 billion in revenue in 2023. It is a leading global provider of advanced engineered solutions for the aerospace and commercial transportation industries. Howmet’s primary businesses focus on jet engine components, aerospace fastening systems, and titanium structural parts necessary for mission‑critical performance and efficiency in aerospace and defense applications, as well as forged wheels for commercial transportation. A familiar name in engineered metal products with approximately 1,150 granted and pending patents, the Company’s differentiated technologies enable lighter, more fuel‑efficient aircraft to operate with a lower carbon footprint.
Howmet’s largest and fastest growing market is aerospace. The Company had a major presence since the Wright brothers’ first flight. Fueled by an expanding middle class and increasing air travel, global aircraft demand has led to a firm order book with an 8.5‑year backlog for both commercial aircraft and aero engines. Howmet’s solutions range from the most innovative investment castings, advanced coatings, seamless rings, forgings, titanium extrusions, and titanium mill products, to fasteners that hold aircraft together. Howmet can produce more than 90% of all structural and rotating aero engine components, and the company has invented over 90% of all the aluminum alloys that have flown.
Howmet’s defense innovations maximize speed, agility and survivability in air, sea and land‑based applications. For over 40 years, Howmet has been a key defense manufacturing partner to the U.S. military and allied nations. In collaboration with prime contractors, the Company’s products support systems across the air, sea and ground‑based radar and aerospace markets. Howmet specializes in the upfront integration of cutting‑edge metal joining technologies designed to increase thermal management performance for high‑powered defense systems. Its integrated program management and expertise in aluminum machining transform plate, forgings and extrusions into detailed parts for flight critical aerospace applications, fluid management systems and elaborate assemblies for radar and other defense structures.
In space, Howmet’s materials science expertise helped land the Apollo spacecraft on the moon and launch the shuttle program. The Company continues to advance space exploration with solutions for launch vehicles, propulsion, crew capsules, and more.
Quality management permeates everything Howmet does from design and development, contract agreement, product realization, product release and after shipment customer support. Howmet’s Quality Management System is certified to the most stringent regulations and standards in the Aerospace, Automotive and Industrial industries. The Company is committed to advancing the sustainability of its customers, markets, and communities where it operates, as well as creating multi‑material solutions that are lighter, stronger, more cost‑effective and durable to help minimize impact on the environment.
