Senior Data Engineering Lead
Citi, a leading global bank, was seeking a senior level professional to establish and implement credit application systems and programs in partnership with the Technology Team. The primary objective of the role was to lead analytical and programming activities for Citi’s Credit suite of applications across Investor Services and to drive standardization and modernization of credit strategy and architecture.
Responsibilities
Technical Leadership:
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of Data Engineers.
Big Data Engineering:
Utilize expertise in Apache Spark (Scala/Python), Apache Kafka and distributed data processing frameworks to design, develop and implement highly performant and fault‑tolerant ETL/ELT pipelines.
System Analysis and Design:
Partner with multiple management teams to ensure appropriate integration of functions, identify system enhancements, and recommend innovative solutions.
Project Management:
Manage projects using Agile/Safe frameworks, ensuring adherence to timelines, budget and quality standards.
Code Quality and Standards:
Establish coding, testing, debugging and implementation standards and conduct code reviews.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work cross‑functionally with architects, infrastructure engineers and business analysts to deliver integrated solutions.
Mentoring and Coaching:
Serve as an advisor to mid‑level developers and analysts.
Risk Management:
Assess risk, ensure compliance with laws, regulations and company policy, and report control issues transparently.
DevOps Practices:
Promote continuous integration, continuous delivery and automated testing.
Containerization and Orchestration:
Implement OpenShift for container orchestration.
Version Control:
Manage source code in GitHub with established branching strategies.
Qualifications
10+ years of progressive technology experience in banking or financial services, including 5+ years of delivery leadership.
Proven experience managing large‑scale cross‑functional Agile delivery in regulated environments.
Solid academic foundation in Computer Science or Engineering; certifications in Agile/Safe, cloud or GenAI/ML frameworks are a plus.
Hands‑on experience with modern architectures: microservices, cloud‑native APIs, secure data pipelines.
Deep knowledge of Agile/Safe delivery frameworks, sprint planning, PI planning and DevSecOps automation.
Practical exposure to Generative AI and LLM‑based tools.
Experience leading production‑grade implementations on hybrid/multi‑cloud platforms.
Effective communicator and influencer across business, engineering and architecture.
Education
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Academic foundation in Computer Science or Engineering; certifications in Agile/Safe, cloud or GenAI/ML frameworks are a strong plus.
Location & Compensation Primary Location: Jersey City, New Jersey, United States.
Full time salary range: $176,720 – $265,080. Additional incentive and retention awards may apply.
