Overview

Airbus is seeking a Design Engineer to join the Repair Solutions department based in Wichita, Kansas. The Design Engineer will support the airline in-service fleet on repairs of aircraft structure and be responsible for creating quality repair solutions from a design perspective. Duties include performing design efforts for both metallic and non-metallic parts while collaborating with static stress and fatigue colleagues to provide repair solutions that satisfy airworthiness requirements and customer needs (Airlines/MROs). Location: Wichita, KS. The role is part of Airbus Americas, with an emphasis on engineering activities at Airbus’ facility on the Wichita State University innovation campus. Responsibilities

Perform simple/routine analyses to verify repair tasks. Review and interpret damage reports of aircraft structures from the Maintenance Repair Organization and verify repair solutions with support. Collaborate with FDT, Design and other appropriate Airbus departments to develop optimum repair solutions. Perform functional and technical tasks with guidance. Create or modify technical documents such as Technical Communications, Technical Dispositions, Repair Instructions, Repair Drawings, etc., within various Airbus computer-based applications with high quality and efficiency. Provide responses to simple to routine repair queries by offering guidance within Airbus Operations and Customer Services in a clear and concise manner. Understand assignment priorities and how they affect workflow. Communicate issues, solutions, ideas, and status of current work to supervision. Read and interpret engineering drawings and bill-of-material systems; interpret technical procedures. Write reports and business correspondence; read, analyze, and interpret technical information. Qualifications

Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Engineering (Aero, Civil, Mechanical) with a strong emphasis on structural design and analysis and mechanics of materials; internship design experience in airframe structures and/or system installation projects. Ability to interpret verbal and written instructions; ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and BOM systems. Strong computer skills including MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail). Authorized to Work in the US; willingness to travel up to ~10% domestically with very limited possible international travel depending on project needs. Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work in an office environment; comfortable using computers for extended periods. Knowledge of maintenance repair shop practices, equipment and capabilities. Physical Requirements

Onsite or remote: Onsite at least 60% of the time at the Wichita Engineering office. Vision, hearing, speaking: able to see/read screens and documents, hear conversations and safety warnings, and participate in meetings daily. Ability to operate office equipment; carry and lift up to 30 lbs/14 kg; push/pull small office furniture monthly. Sitting for long periods; standing for discussions; walking through office and production areas, including uneven surfaces. Travel: Up to 10% domestically with possible limited international travel. Personal Protective Equipment: PPE as required (safety shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirators/masks, gloves).

This is a temporary (contract) position; contractors are employed by a 3rd party vendor and placed on assignment to Airbus in America.
