Our mission is to provide shared IT services to support the needs of the state and citizens of Montana. We offer an innovative and collaborative work environment where employees are valued and supported. What is this career opportunity? We are seeking a detail-oriented, collaborative IT Asset Management (ITAM) Program Specialist with strong technical skills who can quickly learn IT concepts and apply them independently in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment to build the enterprise-wide ITAM program. This role bridges hands-on technical knowledge with strategic coordination, helping to design, document, and mature asset lifecycle practices across hardware and software. The specialist will work alongside IT leadership to ensure asset data accuracy, policy compliance, and efficient onboarding/offboarding processes, while following established SAM and HAM workflows and contributing to clear, detailed process documentation. Success in this role requires learning technical skills (such as computer imaging), quickly adapting to new systems, translating operational workflows into standardized, repeatable processes, and collaborating effectively with stakeholders and partner agencies while maintaining a continuous-improvement mindset in SAM/HAM and IT operations.

Responsibilities include:

Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of IT hardware and software assets using HAM/SAM tools, including independently executing and adhering to established asset management workflows.

Ensure real-time inventory accuracy and data quality to support compliance and reporting.

Develop policies and assist in shaping ITAM governance and operational procedures.

Collaborate with internal and external partners to align ITAM strategy with business goals, while translating business requirements into clearly defined asset management processes.

Support new employee onboarding through workstation setup, including imaging computers and IT orientation.

Manage secure offboarding processes, including asset recovery and credential deactivation.

Contribute to audits, procurement planning, and change management initiatives.

Deliver metrics, reporting, and actionable insights to IT leadership to guide strategic decisions.

Take ownership of ITAM process documentation and continuous improvement initiatives.

What are we looking for? Education and Experience:

An Associate’s degree in Business or a related field; AND

One (1) year of experience as a Business Analyst or in Project Management at the enterprise level.

Alternate combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Knowledge:

Understanding of IT asset lifecycle management across hardware and software environments.

Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn and independently use IT asset management tools (e.g., ServiceNow).

Foundational knowledge of HAM/SAM practices, including asset tracking, compliance, and lifecycle controls.

Skills:

Strong analytical and reporting skills, with the ability to collect, synthesize, and present asset data for strategic use.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create clear, detailed process documentation and workflow diagrams.

Skilled in relationship building and cross-functional collaboration with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.

Basic workstation imaging, software deployment, and license management skills.

Abilities:

Ability to work independently and collaboratively to advance program goals.

Ability to anticipate needs, identify gaps, and propose practical solutions aligned with business and IT objectives.

Ability to lead or participate in process improvement initiatives, training, and stakeholder outreach, including translating complex workflows into standardized, repeatable processes.
