Position Overview SGL is seeking a highly experienced and proactive
Air Export Lead
to support and oversee day-to-day air export operations. This role requires 5+ years of hands‑on air export experience and serves as a senior operational resource within the Air Export Department. The Air Export Lead is responsible for managing complex shipments, ensuring regulatory compliance, supporting operational excellence, and acting as a point of escalation and guidance for air export activities. This position plays a key role in maintaining service quality, meeting deadlines, and supporting continuous improvement while delivering exceptional customer service.
Job Responsibilities
Lead and execute end‑to‑end air export operations, including pickup coordination, inland transportation, airline bookings, and carrier/trucker coordination.
Serve as a subject‑matter expert for air export processes, documentation, and regulatory requirements.
Arrange and confirm freight bookings with airlines and ensure timely and accurate pre‑alerts upon on‑board confirmation.
Track, trace, and manage air export shipments from origin to final destination, providing proactive updates to customers and internal stakeholders.
Act as a point of escalation for operational issues, troubleshooting shipment delays, documentation discrepancies, and service challenges.
Prepare, review, and validate export documentation including Air Waybills, commercial invoices, certificates of origin, AES filings, ITs, and permits.
Ensure all export documentation is accurate, compliant, and distributed in a timely manner to carriers, customers, and overseas agents.
Ensure compliance with internal SOPs and external regulations including TSA, TAPA, IATA, ISO, Customs, and applicable tariffs.
Coordinate inbound and outbound cargo movements, including bonded freight and cargo transfers.
Maintain a high standard of customer service through clear, professional communication with shippers, customers, vendors, airlines, overseas agents, freight forwarders, and trucking companies.
Respond promptly to shipment inquiries, emails, rate requests, and service‑related issues.
Coordinate daily shipment workflows including documentation, dispatching, monitoring, and invoicing accuracy.
Prepare and support shipment quotes, ensuring correct rate application and cost‑effective routing solutions.
Identify opportunities to optimize export processes, reduce costs, improve service levels, and increase operational efficiency.
Support shipment consolidation and booking accuracy in accordance with local procedures.
Assist with reviewing, maintaining, and improving standard operating procedures to ensure compliance and consistency.
Provide backup coverage for key accounts and assist with high‑volume or time‑sensitive shipments as needed.
Support the Department Manager by providing operational insight, reporting issues, and assisting with special projects as assigned.
Skills/Abilities
Minimum 5 years of hands‑on air export experience (required).
Strong knowledge of air freight logistics, export documentation, and international shipping procedures.
Experience handling bonded freight and cargo.
Solid understanding of regulatory compliance (TSA, IATA, TAPA, Customs, etc.).
Customer service oriented.
Problem solving attitude.
High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Effective communication skills, including professional email and telephone etiquette.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
Work Authorization / Security Clearance Requirements
Must be eligible to work in the United States.
Must pass TSA eligibility screening.
