Position Overview
We are seeking a Seafood Clerk for Uncle Giuseppe's Marketplace located in Smithtown, NY. Join our newest Seafood Department on the Island and help serve a wide variety of fresh fish, crabs, lobsters, clams, oysters, scallops, and more. As a key member of our team, you will help keep displays neat, fresh, and inviting, and assist customers with product recommendations and special requests.
Responsibilities
Display counters and cases, ensuring they are stocked, replenished, and properly iced.
Check and verify freshness of seafood items in live tanks, removing foul or spoiled product and rotating merchandise.
Assist customers on seafood products, prices, and service.
Suggest and help find seafood selections, prepare special fillets and cuts as requested.
Weigh, price, and package customer selections using weigh scales, label machine, and wrapping machine.
Process merchandise according to production guidelines and follow established sanitation standards.
Maintain iced displays according to company policy and change ice as scheduled.
Receive and unload seafood delivery trucks, storing product in the designated area.
Receive supplies, organize, and maintain inventory of newly received merchandise.
Monitor cooler, display cases, and tanks for correct temperature to assure product quality.
Maintain a clean, safe department free from hazards; report hazards to management.
Exercise proper safety practices when using equipment and operating seafood tools.
Requirements
At least 18 years of age.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum 1 year of experience working in a seafood department of a grocery or seafood store.
Working knowledge of seafood preparations and displays within a seafood department.
Ability to deliver friendly, courteous, and prompt customer service.
Proficiency in speaking, reading, and communicating in English.
Ability to interpret, understand, and follow instructions, as well as solve problems.
