The Alternate Transport Service (ATS)- Driver
is responsible for operating the non‑medical transportation vehicle and transporting wheelchair‑bound patients. The Driver must have a working knowledge of wheelchair operation, patient handling, loading and securing patients, and must perform daily vehicle inspection and minor maintenance.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Inspects the wheelchair vehicle at the beginning and end of the shift according to established procedures.
Completes vehicle check‑off during each shift.
Reports needed repairs to supervisor and/or other support personnel.
Ensures safe transport of patients and riders.
Maintains an accurate log of daily transports.
Completes paperwork for each transport (paper or computer‑based forms).
Collects payments when indicated; generates receipt and submits payment to supervisor at end of shift.
Has full knowledge of the vehicle’s equipment and its proper use at all times.
Places vehicle back into service upon completion of a call.
Communicates via radio/phone from vehicle to Communications Center.
Assists with departmental orientation for new employees.
Respects confidentiality of all information obtained in the course of work unless required to disclose per company policies.
Adheres to standards of personal ethics that reflect credit upon the position.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education
High school completion or GED.
AHA Basic Life Support Provider or accepted equivalent.
