Nature of Work
Under general supervision, functions as a member of a team providing services to an assigned caseload of inmates living in the unit with close inmate contact. Duties may include developing inmate treatment programs, testing and classifying inmates, testifying at probation and parole hearings, and working with inmates to rehabilitate. Responsibilities also include providing security, inmate counseling, treatment and performance, controlling inmate movement, serving as a role model, compiling information, analyzing factors for inmate involvement in crime, and performing related work. Assists with security posts as needed.
In accordance with SPB 3088 effective 10/7/23, a $5,000 increase will be added to the minimum starting rate of pay for all classifications within a Critical Vacancy Pay Supplemental Facility. Facilities include: Mount Olive Correctional Complex and Jail, among others.
Employees in this classification receive an annual base building pay differential of $250 after completing one year of service (per fiscal year).
If hired into a Critical Vacancy Pay Facility and leaves the facility, the additional $5,000 pay differential may be removed unless transferring to another CVPF.

Minimum Qualifications
Training:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in criminal justice, corrections, psychology, sociology, counseling and guidance, criminology, social work or related field.
Substitution:
Experience in corrections programming or treatment may substitute for the required training on a year-for-year basis.
Experience:
Two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in inmate counseling, security or treatment in a correctional setting or in counseling, probation and parole, mental health counseling or social work.
Substitution:
Master’s Degree in criminal justice, corrections, social work or related behavioral science may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. Five years of experience as a Correctional Officer 2 or higher may also substitute.
