The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care in an assigned clinic or clinical area, including inpatient Mental Health and Psychiatric Emergency Department, following the nursing process and infection control protocols, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
Provide direct nursing care to patients by assessing their physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual status.
Develop a plan of care consistent with the patient's condition and annotate medical records accordingly.
Perform comprehensive patient assessments and implement and evaluate nursing care accordingly.
Administer treatments, medications, and general care according to the nursing plan and best practices.
Operate specialized medical equipment and evaluate patients' responses to care regimens.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care.
Provide education to patients and families about medication, treatments, and follow‑up care.
Participate in discharge planning and quality assurance activities.
Ensure continuity of nursing care through comprehensive handoff during transition.
Advocate for patients' rights and participate in continuing education.
Participate in performance improvement processes and precept/mentor newer staff.
Attend staff meetings, provide break relief coverage, and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years of behavioral health nursing experience.
Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing.
Possession of a limited permit to practice nursing or a valid RN license issued by the New York State Education Department, and current registration.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
