Fluid Systems Design Engineer
We are seeking highly driven, hands‑on Systems & Fluid Design Engineers to support multiple high‑urgency test‑stand infrastructure and fluid system projects. This position involves designing, modifying, building, and commissioning high‑pressure and cryogenic gas systems used in rocket engine development and test environments. The role is ideal for engineers who thrive in fast‑paced, unpredictable environments and who enjoy both conceptual design and real‑world activation of the hardware they build. You will partner directly with lead engineers and technicians to execute end‑to‑end system ownership—from design through commissioning and help solve real‑time challenges that arise during testing and operations.
Responsibilities
Design new or updated high‑pressure and cryogenic fluid, gas, and piping systems (e.g., LN2, LOX, high‑pressure helium, nitrogen systems).
Create system‑level CAD models and drawings using NX Unigraphics (SolidWorks/Creo/Catia transferable).
Perform structural and thermal analysis using ANSYS or similar tools.
Select and integrate commercial off‑the‑shelf components and specify custom fabricated tubing/piping.
Act as the de‑facto project manager for system builds.
Coordinate with technicians, welders, fabricators, and trades to efficiently execute construction.
Oversee installation, testing, troubleshooting, and final activation of systems, solving day‑of issues.
Ensure systems are handed off fully tested, commissioned, and ready for operations.
Work alongside lead engineers, operations personnel, and other system owners.
Communicate clearly with both engineering and hands‑on personnel.
Navigate a fast‑paced culture, prioritize multiple active projects, and act with urgency.
Essential Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
1+ years of experience with liquid and gas pumps/high‑pressure gas systems, cryogenic systems, valves, and instrumentation.
3+ years of design experience, specifically with system design and modifications.
3+ years of experience managing projects, including deadlines, cost, and coordination with tradespeople, welders, and technicians.
Proficiency with ANSYS and NX Unigraphics (or other design software such as SolidWorks).
Experience in an industrial setting and the ability to provide demonstrated examples of success across design, build, and activation phases.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in relatable industries such as oil & gas, aerospace & defense, or process plant engineering.
Ability to overcome unexpected obstacles and provide real‑time solutions.
Willingness to get hands dirty and be involved in hands‑on activities.
Work Environment & Location Located at the McGregor site, the work shift is flexible but roughly 8 AM to 6 PM, five days a week, with the potential to extend to six days as needed. The environment is fast‑paced, requiring quick adaptation to changing conditions and priorities.
