The successful candidate will report to the Valve Converter Electrical Team Leader, and collaborate with the power electronics valves product manager and world-class experts within the HVDC converter valve team to deliver innovative converter valve products that positively impact the business. The role offers an opportunity to innovate, expand design skills, and develop within a globally recognized expert team in HVDC and FACTS. Responsibilities

Design, model, analyze and validate power electronic topologies, converters and components for Voltage Source Converters (VSC) and Modular Multilevel Converters (MMC) for HVDC and FACTS applications. Validate performance of developed solutions through simulations, prototyping, and testing. Lead and take ownership of the development of requirement specifications, design specifications and test specifications. Document technology and results through patent applications, technical reports, and publications. Contribute to and lead the development of new products and advanced technological solutions within the HVDC and FACTS market. Mentor and guide a team of engineers in achieving business objectives. Support the control and system design teams to develop optimal holistic solutions. Develop design and sizing tools. Ensure solutions are technically appropriate and that GE Vernova has freedom to utilize these solutions. Ensure work complies with applicable international standards and policies. Transfer technology to GE Vernova engineering teams for inclusion in next-generation products and services. Stay current with advances in system technologies to seek out new ideas and applications. Collaborate with colleagues across GE Vernova and external partners, including customers, test laboratories, standard committees, and universities. Define, plan, and manage development activities independently. Participate in gate review meetings, design reviews, and quality processes. Adhere to GE’s Health and Safety processes by personnel. Qualifications/Requirements

Doctorate degree in an Engineering field with a minimum of 8 years of experience in design, development and validation of power converters, or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 15 years of experience. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in development of complex power converters >1 MVA for grid or industrial applications (e.g., HVDC converter, HVDC multiterminal schemes, wind/solar converters, STATCOM, multi-level inverters, rectifiers, filters, drives). Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink and/or PLECS, PSpice, LTSpice, PSCAD or equivalent modeling software for converter and component simulation of VSC-HVDC or complex multi-level converters. Experience in commissioning projects and developing power electronic solutions for industrial and AC transmission grid applications. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Ability and willingness to travel approximately 30% of the time, including international travel, and compliance with company travel and tax policies. Availability to travel to Bilbao when needed. Desired

Deep understanding of Voltage-Sourced Converter (VSC) HVDC schemes; knowledge of LCC (Line Commutated Converter) is advantageous. Wide design experience for electrical components inside converter valves including auxiliary circuits (gate drives, bypass switch, and protection elements). Knowledge of power electronics devices and topologies, including voltage-sourced and current-source converters. Demonstrated experience developing innovative solutions and designing power system components (capacitors, inductors, filters). Deep understanding of power semiconductors (IGBTs, Thyristors, MV power modules), control, testing, packaging, and thermal management. Experience sizing and designing power system solutions (main circuit, key component specs, layout, etc.) and collaborating with relevant departments. Understanding of power systems operation, stability, protection, and grid-codes compliance. Strong experience with simulation tools such as Matlab/Simulink and PSCAD-EMTDC. Knowledge of grid-following and grid-forming techniques. Experience interfacing with customers and regulatory stakeholders (e.g., TSOs, developers, government agencies). Strong communication skills and ability to interact with senior leadership. Experience with government funding applications and project proposals, including tender documents for commercial offers. Experience with program management (scheduling, milestones, technical reviews, funding tracking). Proven ability to take an innovative idea from concept to product.
