Job Title
Maintenance Mechanic III
Department Campus Operations
Work Location ALL SITES
Duties
Receives work assignments, work orders, and instructions from the Maintenance Supervisor.
Studies and interprets construction, mechanical, or electrical blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, drawings, or sketches to construct new facilities; installs new equipment or troubleshoots mechanical or electrical problems; plans and determines working procedures and tool and materials requirements.
Corrects defective mechanical devices and other equipment by disassembling, installing new parts, welding or refitting; adjusts and maintains mechanical equipment.
Installs air, water, gas, and refrigerant lines; repairs and maintains plumbing.
Repairs and maintains temperature control systems.
Repairs and maintains all college HVAC systems.
Repairs and maintains AC & DC electrical systems.
Repairs and maintains electronic equipment and systems.
Operates and programs the building automation system.
Regularly inspects mechanical, electrical, and HVAC equipment.
May be responsible for the maintenance of the college’s swimming pool if certified as an Illinois Swimming Pool Operator.
Assists in job training for designated maintenance staff.
Prepares boiler house log by cleaning boilers, adding chemicals to boiler water and cooling towers, and performing chemical tests as required.
Maintains housekeeping in work area and work sites.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Minimum of five (5) years of work experience as a skilled Maintenance Mechanic required. High school or GED, plus vocational, technical, or educational certificate within electronics, electricity or heating and air conditioning program, OR completion of an approved on-the-job training program of forty months required. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Qualifications
Ability to read and comprehend blueprints and written instructions; ability to communicate effectively and respond to college personnel.
Basic computational skills.
Works independently and exercises good judgment; demonstrates required knowledge of test equipment, shop machinery, and hand tools.
Demonstrates knowledge of heating and cooling systems in order to troubleshoot and make extensive repairs.
Demonstrates knowledge of building automation systems, including basic programming and ability to make modifications.
Positive, service‑oriented attitude; will require on‑call weekend work when necessary.
Valid driver’s license.
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, and use ladder, scaffolding, bucket truck; lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Position Status Full Time
Hours Monday‑Friday, 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM. Will require on‑call weekend/other work when necessary.
Salary/Wage $23.21‑$25.04 (plus exceptional benefits)
