Industry Medical Device Manufacturing (Oxygen Concentrator Manufacturing & Design)
Reports To Engineering Manager
About the Role We're looking for a talented Mechanical Engineer to join our growing engineering team in Birmingham, Alabama. In this role, you'll be at the forefront of designing, developing, and refining mechanical systems and components for life‑saving oxygen concentrator products. This is an opportunity to make a real impact, as your work will directly contribute to products that improve quality of life for patients worldwide. You'll work on everything from initial concept through production, collaborating with cross‑functional teams to ensure our products are reliable, cost‑effective, manufacturable, and compliant with medical device regulations.
What You'll Do Product Design & Development
Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and systems for new and existing oxygen concentrator products
Create and maintain detailed engineering drawings, 3D models, and technical documentation using CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)
Perform tolerance analysis, stress analysis, and thermal analysis to validate designs
Develop prototypes and conduct functional and durability testing to drive continuous improvement
Manufacturing & Process Support
Research and develop optimal manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods, and tooling requirements
Support selection of materials, manufacturing methods, and suppliers for mechanical components
Design, develop, and cost‑justify tooling, machinery, and equipment for manufacturing operations
Conduct product and process analysis focused on cost reduction, quality improvement, and efficiency
Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement
Lead process improvement initiatives and problem resolution using root cause analysis
Investigate and troubleshoot mechanical issues in production and fielded products
Conduct risk evaluation and control for new designs and processes
Perform product verification and validation as required by regulatory standards
Work closely with electrical, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure designs meet performance, cost, and manufacturability requirements
Maintain compliance with ISO 9001, FDA regulations, and other relevant industry standards
Support employee training initiatives and knowledge transfer
What We're Looking For Required:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related engineering field
3–4 years of experience in mechanical design and product development
Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks strongly preferred)
Solid understanding of mechanical design principles, materials science, and manufacturing processes (sheet metal, injection molding, machining, etc.)
Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
Strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred:
Experience in medical device or regulated manufacturing environments
Familiarity with ISO 9001 and quality management systems
Proficiency with engineering analysis tools (FEA, thermal analysis, CFD)
Knowledge of industrial equipment operation and maintenance
Experience with project management and scheduling tools
Risk evaluation and control methodology experience

This is an on‑site position based in Birmingham, Alabama. You'll work primarily in our professional office and engineering lab environment, with regular time in light manufacturing and assembly areas for hands‑on collaboration with production teams.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and move up to 35 lbs regularly, occasionally up to 60 lbs
Comfortable working in office, lab, and manufacturing floor environments
Regular use of computers, CAD software, measurement instruments, and test fixtures
Salary Range $50,000 – $60,000+ (commensurate with experience and qualifications)
