Main Purpose of Job The main purpose of this full‑time contractual position is to provide support and training to people with developmental disabilities to enable them to advocate for themselves, to assist with questions and concerns from individuals who receive DDA funding, and to provide outreach and education to community organizations. This position communicates through phone, email, and in person.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high‑school equivalency certificate.

Experience:

One year of experience performing administrative staff, clerical, clerical technical, or secretarial work.

Optional substitutions:

30 credit hours from an accredited college or university in place of the required experience.

U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non‑commissioned officer involving staff work requiring independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies (year‑for‑year).

Selective Qualifications

At least one year of experience as a self‑advocate for developmental or intellectual disabilities.

Desired or Preferred Qualifications

Experience in outreach to other self‑advocates, self‑advocacy groups, and other organizations.

Experience developing and conducting training.

Experience as a role model and mentor for peers in learning and using self‑advocacy skills.

Experience working independently.

Special Requirements Candidates may be responsible for providing their own transportation as needed to access meetings, remote locations, and job destinations as assigned.

Selection Process Applicants who meet the minimum (and selective) qualifications will be included in further evaluation. The evaluation will rate your application based on your education, training, and experience as they relate to the requirements of the position. Candidates must submit complete and accurate information on their application, including education, experience dates, and hours of work. For education obtained outside the U.S., a foreign credential evaluation service must provide equivalency before starting employment (and may be requested before interview). Benefits Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract, and work 30 or more hours a week (or an average of 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of these benefits. Additional coverage options include dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, all of which you will pay in full.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
