Exempt The Engineer II Development is responsible for developing energy efficient building infrastructure systems for consulting, design, design-build, and performance contract projects, including preliminary/schematic designs for HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, and Controls systems using REVIT and Bluebeam. The engineer will use industry-standard software such as Carrier HAP, Microsoft Excel, and other manufacturer selection software for mechanical designs and energy calculations. The engineer will contribute to energy audits and performance contracts by assisting Program Managers, Energy Engineers, Design Engineers, and Project Managers with developing design concepts for energy conservation measures, identifying and structuring technical and financial solutions to meet customer objectives. Responsibilities include identifying and quantifying energy conservation opportunities in HVAC, EMS, building envelope, and heating and cooling systems; performing utility analysis, benchmarking, site investigations, energy savings calculations; researching incentives, rebates, and other funding opportunities; assisting in the design of HVAC, Lighting, EMS, and Central Plant retrofits, developing cost estimates, and written descriptions of energy conservation measures in support of technical audits and ESPC proposals. Role Responsibilities: Assist the engineering staff to screen and qualify the feasibility of energy efficiency and capital improvement opportunities. This includes attending selected customer meetings, conducting site trips to collect facility and utility data, and developing energy screening models to determine technical and economic viability. Screening models include bin analyses, hourly building simulation models, and commercially available analysis packages. Field work documenting existing as-built conditions during development/design and inspecting contractors’ work during construction. Direct junior staff in producing preliminary designs by providing guidance and training on system design, pricing, document preparation, and software usage. Assist in the production of bid documents for HVAC, Lighting, EMS, and Central Plant systems. Drawings will be produced with REVIT and Bluebeam. Calculations with Carrier HAP, Microsoft Excel, etc. Specifications prepared using Microsoft Word to edit Master Specs for individual clients. Job Requirements and Experiences: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required; PE registration preferred Minimum 5 years of experience in HVAC/EMS and central plant energy systems Minimum 5 years of experience in energy simulation software (ASHRAE Modified BIN, Trane Trace, Carrier HAP, eQuest, etc.) Familiarity with design-build and/or performance contracting preferred Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Teams Engineering analytical and technical writing skills, including word processing and spreadsheet analyses Building energy use modeling and simulation experience (e.g., eQUEST, HAP, DOE2, Trane Trace, ASHRAE Modified Bin Analysis) Design experience with HVAC and other building systems Familiarity with local and national building codes and standards (IBC, NFPA, LEED, ASHRAE 90.1) REVIT and/or Bluebeam proficiency preferred Awareness of mechanical system components and technologies to meet customer needs Cost-estimating and project implementation exposure preferred Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills; ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines Ability to travel to project sites up to 20% of time Office-based role with travel to other RWECE locations Must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. The annual base salary range for this position in New York is $102,000 – $140,000. The salary range represents a good-faith estimate for new hire salaries across U.S. locations. Salary information is a general guideline; factors include scope and responsibilities, education, work experience, training, certifications, and market considerations at the time of offer.
