The purpose of this classification is to perform administrative and technical tasks to coordinate and implement the employment interview process, the college tuition program and the benefits program for the Human Resource Division of the City of Alexandria.
Prepares and maintains statistical data and tracks spreadsheets with associated timelines for the employment process.
Administers leave program. Determines FMLA eligibility; advises employees regarding extended leave options.
Conducts new hire orientation; advises new employees of and provides supporting documentation for retirement, insurance and cafeteria plans; informs employees of payroll dates, policies, and rules; advises new employees of and assists them with obtaining any missing documentation; assists new employees with completion of any information needed to complete personnel files;
Enrolls new hires in benefits; updates computer systems; and compiles and submits new hire reports.
Manages, revises, administers and communicates the College Tuition Program Guidelines to facilitate reimbursement to employees for approved college tuition.
Performs administrative tasks to assist employees with all issues and questions involving the benefits programs offered by the City; explains state and federal funded programs to employees.
Coordinates annual benefits enrollment; monitors HIPPA Privacy, COBRA Administration, self-funded health plan and Cafeteria Section 125 to ensure compliance.
Monitors the deferred compensation programs and authorizes changes and/or withdrawals.
Provides employees with information regarding mental health services as needed; may provides referrals and other support.
Provides additional human resources services; assists in developing and implementing policies and procedures; completes processes required for employees who separate from employment; notifies employees of garnishments and medical support orders, etc.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Human Resources or related field; supplemented by three (3) years of experience in Human Resources, recruiting and interviewing, or benefits coordination preferably in a public organization; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Must possess a valid driver’s license. Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment for this classification.
