REGISTERED NURSE‑PACU RN
Smilow Cancer Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse to provide quality care in the Post‑Anesthesia Care Unit.

Responsibilities
Standards of Practice
– The RN practice is guided by the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice (2015). The RN assesses, diagnoses, plans, implements, and evaluates care, coordinates transitions, promotes health, and evaluates outcomes, ensuring quality and safety.
Standards of Professional Performance
– The RN engages in professional activities such as ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence‑based practice, and quality improvement. The RN is accountable for actions toward peers, patients, and society, and utilizes evidence to enhance nursing practice.
Qualifications
Education
– Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred. All newly hired registered nurses must have current BCLS certification or obtain it within one month of hire.
Experience
– Registered Nurse experience is required; all RNs are encouraged to advance through the SPIRE clinical advancement program.
Licensure
– Must be a licensed and currently registered nurse in the State of Connecticut. Clinical specialty certification is highly encouraged.
Special Skills
– Experience with PACU care, advanced clinical skills, and critical thinking are preferred.
Physical Demands Requires prolonged standing, walking, use of sight, hearing, and touch. The RN may be exposed to infectious diseases and to physical, mental, and emotional illness, including end‑of‑life situations. Standing/walking for more than half the day is required, with frequent bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting, and lifting. The RN must assist with patients weighing from 5 to 300 pounds.
Additional Information Three 12‑hour shifts per week, with 1–2 overnight (11 p‑7 a) on‑call shifts required per 6‑week schedule. PACU experience preferred. Strong clinical skills and critical thinking required. ACLS/BLS/PALS certification mandatory. TCAR within one year of hire.
