As an Examiner, you will conduct Compensation & Pension (C&P) Examinations for Veterans seeking disability compensation from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). The role involves reviewing the claim, performing focused assessments of claimed injuries, reviewing medical records, and potentially rendering a medical opinion based on the record review and completed C&P exam. Charting from home may be required. Each examiner plays a vital role in the overall experience of the Veteran; by providing an exceptional experience during these examinations we aim to positively impact each Veteran.
These Medical Disability Examinations are crucial in the VA’s process for determining benefits Veterans can receive as a result of service‑connected health issues. Our clinical insights will facilitate access to treatment subspecialists when necessary, creating exceptional continuity of care.
Clinical Examiners will use a web‑based examination form in a proprietary online system, capturing patient information throughout the exam. Qualified candidates must hold an active license, work independently and collaboratively, demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, and adapt to changing situations. Basic computer skills are required.
Pay : Base + Monthly incentive = $124,716–$154,716 a year.
Job Responsibilities
Conduct Comprehensive Medical Disability Examinations: Perform thorough and focused medical evaluations of Veterans, including review of medical history, physical examinations, and assessment of the impact of disabilities on daily life and functional abilities. 10% travel required to include other LSGS Clinics.
Review and Analyze Medical Records: Assess medical records, diagnostic test results, and other documentation to gain a comprehensive understanding of the Veteran’s medical history and health condition.
Render Objective Medical Opinions: Provide unbiased, evidence‑based medical opinions regarding the extent of veteran’s health issues and their impact on ability to work.
Work in case management system: organize workload, submit findings, and correspond with the Quality Assurance Team.
Collaborate with Healthcare Professionals: Coordinate with specialists to obtain additional medical information and insights.
Document Examination Findings: Record findings and recommendations in clear, concise reports following VA guidelines and contractual obligations.
Partner with Loyal Source departments to gain support and use resources for task completion and deadlines.
Effective time management: submit and confirm availability for all C&P exams.
Ensure Compliance and Quality: Adhere to all relevant laws, regulations, standards, and VA training requirements.
Maintain Confidentiality: Safeguard patient information and comply with HIPAA.
Participate in annual HIPAA compliance assessment; re‑training may be required if score falls below passing threshold.
Qualifications
Education and Licensing: Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program. Valid, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in all U.S. states and territories.
At least 1 year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner.
Preferred experience in medical disability examinations or related field.
Basic Life Support certification (including renewals).
Previous military experience or familiarity with veteran communities is a plus.
Completion of specialized training in Medical Disability Evaluations, occupational health, or related areas is advantageous.
Demonstrated proficiency in comprehensive medical assessments and evidence‑based MD opinions.
Empathy and Compassion: patient‑centered evaluation approach.
Strong analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills.
Uphold ethics and integrity; maintain objectivity and fairness.
Detail‑oriented, accuracy‑focused, alignment with LS and VA standards.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Excellent organizational and time‑management skills; adapt to fast‑paced changes.
Strong customer focus and sense of urgency.
Authorized to work in the U.S.; meet federal contractor requirements.
Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense, carry out detailed instructions, and address problems involving a few variables.
Technological Ability Competent in MS Word, MS Outlook, Adobe PDF, web‑based platforms, electronic medical records systems; familiarity with Teams and web‑based learning management systems is preferred.
Physical Requirements Prolonged periods standing and sitting at a desk while working on a computer; must lift up to 15 pounds, see, hear, smell, bend, stretch, and engage in full range of motion to conduct physical examinations.
Travel Requirements 10% travel to support other clinics; additional travel for training or company events.
Schedule Requirements Monday – Friday 8 am – 5 pm standard schedule; holidays clinics closed.
