We are seeking a Senior Engineer – Transmission Line at our corporate office in Albany, NY or remote.
Position Summary The Senior Engineer for Transmission Line Engineering will be the lead engineer for one or more concurrent transmission engineering projects. The Engineer will be responsible for providing engineering design and construction support for assigned tasks; interfacing with clients and other outside entities on technical issues; providing technical support to other staff including designers, engineers and project managers; and assisting in developing engineering standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Working with subcontractors, other staff engineers and designers to perform and/or review engineering calculations and create design drawings. Examples of design drawings:
Transmission line plan & profiles.
Transmission structure analysis and detailed design.
Transmission structure foundations.
Transmission structure anchor details.
Write project study and feasibility reports
Perform constructability reviews of transmission line designs
Assist with writing project proposals and creating project cost estimates
Lead project teams and mentor junior engineers
Selecting and ordering transmission line material and/or equipment
Providing weekly schedule updates to Project Managers
Coordinating design issues with clients and vendors
Participating in project team meetings and conference calls
Reviewing and approving vendor submittals
Providing engineering support during construction, testing and commissioning
Supervision

Professional Registration
Professional Engineering license (one or more US states) is required.
Educational Requirements
Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering and/or Mechanical Engineering.
Knowledge of NEC, NESC, ANSI, NEMA, IEEE and other applicable codes and standards.
Experience & Training Requirements
10+ Years Experience in the following areas:
Overhead Transmission Line Layout (13.8kV – 500 kV)
Structural (Wood/Steel/Concrete Pole and/or Steel Lattice Tower) Design
Material selection and ordering
Foundation Design
Highly motivated and able to execute tasks from a lead role.
Good written and verbal communications skills.
Ability to work well with others in a team setting.
Skilled in engineering theories and principles.
Skilled in practice of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.
Skilled in problem solving in time‑sensitive situations.
Computer Skills
Demonstrated experience in the following software programs:
AutoCAD 2015 or later – Basic
Microsoft Excel – Basic
Microsoft Word – Basic
PLS-CADD (Transmission Line Design Software) – Advanced
PLS-Pole (Transmission Structure Design Software) – Moderate
PLS-Tower (Transmission Structure Design Software) – Moderate
Travel Requirements
Senior Engineers’ travel level is typically 10%.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift / move equipment up to 15 lbs.
