Job Overview As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (COM) has a reputation for training health care professionals and developing procedures and research that improve patient care. In partnership with the UC Health academic healthcare system and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, COM doctors are advancing the field of medicine. The Department of Family Medicine is recruiting an Advanced Practice Provider to join the Timothy Freeman, MD, Center for Developmental Disabilities within the UC Health system. The Freeman Center strives to be a national leader in providing specialized, coordinated, patient-centered care to adults with IDD. Preferred applicants would have experience working with adults with IDD. This position provides two years of hands-on training and mentoring by experienced primary care physicians at the Freeman Center.
Responsibilities
Provide primary care to adults with a variety of intellectual and developmental disabilities including autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and many rarer syndromes.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary team.
Communicate with patients, caregivers, families, and support staff through a variety of communication styles.
Communicate with multiple specialists within the health system to coordinate care.
Document findings, plans, and actions taken according to departmental guidelines and standards.
Maintain a working knowledge of relevant medical/legal issues that impact patient care.
Maintain records and statistics in accordance with department policies.
Attend and participate in staff, committee, department, and other administrative meetings.
Participate in the department’s continuous quality improvement efforts.
Provide education to other health care professionals.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements Nurse Practitioner:
Required Education Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program.
Required Trainings/Certifications Active Ohio APRN license with prescriptive authority. Active Board Certification in appropriate nursing specialty.
Required Experience Three (3) years nursing experience. Additional related work experience may be required depending on specialty/sub-specialty.

Physician Assistant:
Required Education Master’s Degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
Required Trainings/Certifications Active Ohio Physician Assistant license with prescriptive authority. Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
Required Experience Additional related work experience may be required depending on specialty/sub-specialty.
Physical Requirements / Work Environment Sitting; often repetitive hand motion (typing); often hearing and listening; often talking; often standing and walking; often bending; seldom stooping, kneeling, or squatting; seldom reaching overhead; seldom pulling or pushing.
