Hybrid This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Technical Center in Mountain View, CA office three times per week, at minimum.

The General Motors Commercial Software Team is responsible for delivering digital experiences that enable business fleet, vehicle rental, and government customers to operate their vehicles more safely and effectively. We create digital touchpoints that increase customer loyalty and offer safety, security, and fleet management applications, as well as insights, APIs, and data services to maximize the value of GM vehicles.

The Role We are seeking a seasoned

Staff Product Manager

for the Commercial Software Platform – the foundation of shared services and components that power the fleet‑management solutions for our commercial customers. In this role, you’ll work at the intersection of engineering, design, and product teams to define the platform roadmap, translate future needs into clear requirements, and drive execution. You’ll anticipate how products will evolve on the platform, abstract common patterns into reusable capabilities, and ensure the resulting experiences are scalable, usable, and consistently excellent across web and mobile.

What You’ll Do

Define and maintain the roadmap for the core experience of the Commercial Software Platform. Anticipate future customer needs, translate them into clear platform‑level requirements, make trade‑offs, and keep alignment across dependent teams.

Collaborate with designers to ensure usability, consistent experience, and high quality interaction models across web and mobile. Be a guardian of simplicity and clarity of the core customer experience.

Work with engineers to ensure the platform is built to scale (performance, reliability, maintainability), supports modularity, reusability, and extensibility.

Maintain strong documentation, guidelines, pattern libraries.

Ensure the product is delivered with quality: oversee the entire product lifecycle from discovery, through development, testing, launch, and maintenance/sustainment.

Make data‑driven decisions: define KPIs for platform health, adoption, usability, performance. Monitor, iterate, and drive continuous improvement.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field.

Proven mobile and web application development experience: 8+ years as a Product Manager in software product management with a proven track record of building web and mobile applications with complex workflows and sophisticated presentation of data.

Platform mindset: ability to synthesize requirements across customers and multiple internal product teams and translate them into generalized solutions that serve these diverse use cases. Skilled at spotting common patterns and defining reusable components that reduce duplication and accelerate delivery.

Strong technical background: direct experience working with modern front‑end technologies and product platform concepts, including design systems, pattern libraries, component libraries, and UI frameworks. Able to engage deeply with engineers to understand trade‑offs, evaluate technical approaches, and ensure scalable, maintainable solutions.

User experience leadership: develops a strong point of view on usability and interaction design, and uses wireframing tools to communicate concepts and collaborate effectively with designers. Skilled at identifying usability issues, proposing solutions, and influencing design decisions to ensure clarity, simplicity, and consistent user experiences across web and mobile.

Excellent communication skills

– ability to communicate clearly and persuasively with stakeholders at all levels. Skilled at framing critical decisions, presenting options, and crafting compelling, actionable plans that drive alignment and results.

Strong drive and sense of urgency

– ability to act swiftly and decisively while exercising sound judgment.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

Prior product management experience with a platform that serves multiple internal customers.

Prior product management experience with B2B SaaS products.

Experience in the automotive or mobility industry, with a strong understanding of vehicle data and connected vehicle ecosystems.

Hands‑on experience with third‑party integrations, ideally with at least one major CRM tool (e.g., Salesforce).

Familiarity with OTA (over‑the‑air)-driven customer or product experiences.

Exposure to AI/ML applications, particularly in powering customer support or intelligent automation.

Proficiency with modern data analytics platforms and tools for deriving insights and driving business outcomes.

Compensation The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of the California Bay Area.

The salary range for this role is $168,000 to $258,800. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.

Bonus Potential: an incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.

Company Vehicle Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, through which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate. Note: program participants are required to purchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies.
