team in
New York City
is looking for a Building Performance Engineer (Mid-Level) to help transform NYC's performance. In this role, you'll be at the forefront of driving operational
efficiency and sustainability
for a diverse portfolio of multifamily, commercial, institutional, and community buildings in NYC metro and beyond. You'll leverage your expertise in
building commissioning ,
energy auditing ,
retrofit implementation , and
HVAC systems
to reduce energy consumption, lower costs, and advance our firm's environmental stewardship goals. Salary Range:
$70,000 - $100,000 annually (based on years of experience and skills). Ready to apply?

Applications willbe reviewed on a rolling basis. Qualified candidates will be invited for a 30-minute technical assessment to evaluate skills. Based on assessment results, selected candidates will be contacted for up to 2-3 rounds of interviews. What you'll do:
You’ll use your engineering expertise to improve energy efficiency and building performance across a wide variety of projects, from multifamily and commercial to institutional and community buildings. Work on
commissioning
for new construction and retrofits. Perform
benchmarking, energy audits, and retro-commissioning . Review submittals and codes . Develop
testing plans . Inspect installations. Test central plants and terminal units.
Analyze
trends. Create energy-saving strategies. Document findings clearly for both technical and non-technical audiences. Ensure
compliance . Prepare
client reports . Collaborate
with internal teams. Work with project managers, energy modelers, and sustainability consultants. Keep projects aligned and on schedule. Review
engineering calculations . Assess
technical feasibility . Ensure projects meet requirements. Maintain proper documentation. Lead communication with building owners, developers, architects, engineers, and contractors. Support team development by
mentoring
junior staff and assisting senior colleagues with
proposal and project scope
preparation. What you bring: Bachelor’s degree in
Engineering, Building Science, or a related field. 2+ years of relevant, hands-on experience
focused on
HVAC systems
and building performance in large commercial, institutional, or multi-family buildings. Hands-on experience
with field inspections, testing, and troubleshooting of
HVAC, central plant, and related building systems. Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite. Familiarity with
utility billing analysis ,
ASHRAE standards ,

You'll regularly sit, frequently walk, use your hands for various tasks, reach, and communicate. Fieldwork requires the ability to lift up to 20 pounds, climb stairs, and navigate construction sites. Specific vision abilities including close, distance, color vision, and focus adjustment are necessary. Travel:
Expect occasional overnight travel (less than 10%) and frequent local field visits (estimated 40-50%) within the Office Metro area. A valid and clean driving license is required. Working Environment:
Recent hires may be required to work in-office five days per week during onboarding, with potential for a flexible schedule after necessary training or supervisor approval; all team members are generally expected in the office at least three (3) days per week, with flexibility based on job duties and site work.
