Overview

Licensed Practical Nurse - Injection Room (40 hours Burien) — Kaiser Permanente Provide direct and indirect nursing care to patients in routine nursing situations, under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse or licensed physician. In complex situations in which the patient is unstable or requires urgent or emergent care, the LPN functions under the direct supervision of the RN or licensed physician. The LPN is an integral member of the health care team, participating in patient assessment and the formulation, implementation and monitoring of the care plan. If part of the Infusion Therapy department, this position provides infusion therapy to Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington members including blood transfusions, IVIG, hydration, antibiotics, etc. May facilitate and coordinate care for members with oncologic diagnoses. Responsibilities

Assessment: Assist in the assessment of patient/consumer need for care and communicate with RN/MD providers appropriately and in a timely manner. Determine patient/consumer purpose for admission/visit. Collect data relevant to visit/admission and ongoing care as directed by standards/plan of care. Recognize urgent/emergent situations and appropriately refer/manage. Plan of Care: Contribute pertinent information to the plan of care and assist in monitoring care. Deliver nursing care as determined by plan or patient needs. Recommend modifications in plan of care as needed. Assist patients/families in self-care activities. Demonstrate understanding of the physiologic and psychological effects of normal aging by assessing and implementing care to meet the needs of populations served. Implementation: Provide nursing interventions safely and competently and report relevant findings to RN/MD in a timely manner. Follow through and implement plan of care as directed; a) provide appropriate instruction to patient/consumer about routine health maintenance, normal/abnormal lab results, special procedures and follow-up care as directed; b) prepare and administer approved medications at the direction of the RN and upon order from MD, ARNP, or PA; c) perform treatments and assist with procedures as directed; d) competently perform skills/tasks as listed on LPN skills competency inventory. Evaluation: Assist in evaluating patient/consumer response to care through communication and observation. Recommend modifications in plan of care to RN/MD/ARNP/PA based upon patient/consumer response. Age Specific Care: Demonstrate understanding of the physiologic and psychological effects of normal aging by assessing and implementing care to meet the needs of those populations served. Report appropriate age-specific assessment findings to the RN. Demonstrate effective communication skills with those specific age populations served. Communication and Coordination of Care: Communicate and cooperate with other health care team members in planning and implementing care. Report appropriate age-specific assessment findings to the RN/MD/ARNP/PA. Demonstrate effective communication skills with those specific age populations served. Orientation: Orient patients/consumers to the health care team members, the services available, and the means of access to those services. Demonstrate an awareness of the Consumer Bill of Rights and Responsibilities. Participate in the orientation of new consumers to KFHPW policies and procedures. Instruction: Assist in the identification of educational needs and communicate to RN/MD in a timely manner. Instruct patients/consumers according to the educational plan of care or appropriate educational materials. Encourage patient/consumer compliance with therapeutic nursing and medical regimens. Preventative Care: Identify patient/consumer risk factors. Utilize available health education resources for preventive care. Reinforce the plan of care to improve general health status. Promote patient/consumer self-care responsibility for meeting their own health needs. Documentation: Record accurate and pertinent data on the medical record according to documentation guidelines. Safety/Comfort: Provide a safe environment for each patient/consumer and adhere to KFHPW/facility/unit specific safety standards. Adhere to KFHPW infection control, safety hazardous waste, universal precautions, and CPR standards. Professional Development: Identify own learning needs and participate in educational efforts to meet those needs. Participate in staff orientation and student education activities. Participate with managers and peers in completing processes for self and colleague/team performance reviews. Conform to KFHPW dress code policy. Participate in QA/QI, work redesign, and cost-saving measures. Qualifications

Basic Qualifications: Experience: N/A Education: Degree from an accredited program. License, Certification, Registration: Practical Nurse License (Washington) required at hire OR Compact License: Practical Nurse required at hire; Basic Life Support required at hire. Additional Requirements: N/A Preferred Qualifications: Recent ambulatory care experience is preferred. Knowledge of electronic patient charting systems.
