The Operations Manager, reporting to the General Manager within a matrix organization, provides strategic leadership for Atlas Copco Air Way, operating as part of and in close collaboration with the Application Center to deliver custom feeder and automation solutions for the Motor Vehicle Industry and General Industry markets. This role owns operational excellence and P&L performance, leads the continued integration and maturation of a recent acquisition, and plays a critical role as a change leader by facilitating operational, cultural, and technology driven initiatives, ensuring alignment, adoption, and sustained impact while advancing leadership capability, modern operating practices, and scalable processes to support long term profitable growth.

Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and actively manage operational strategies and initiatives aligned with business objectives to close performance gaps and drive sustainable, profitable growth.

Manage the P&L, ensuring financial discipline, cost control, and margin improvement.

Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing, employee-oriented organization that emphasizes accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.

Partner closely with the MVI, GI, and Service Business Lines to evolve the total customer offering, improve solution effectiveness, and drive customer satisfaction. In collaboration with the leadership team, develop and execute strategic, forward-looking plans informed by market trends, technology advancements, and financial opportunities.

Drive continuous cost, capacity, and workflow optimization to deliver competitive, scalable, and efficient solutions.

Support global collaboration, with a clear consistent execution process, driving project success and growth.

Support the development of cost-optimized, high-quality design and manufacturing solutions in collaboration with the global application center network, leveraging local sourcing and qualified supplier partners.

Lead complex, cross functional change initiatives including operational transformations, acquisition integration, and technology adoption, ensuring alignment, adoption, and lasting results.

Build and advance application engineering knowledge and project management capabilities to meet current and future market demands, while driving continuous improvement toward globally aligned, industry-leading output.

Standardize, enhance, and expand local value-added products to complement and strengthen the overall feeding and automation solutions portfolio.

Integrate new products, technologies, or capabilities through internal development, partnerships, or acquisitions.

Act as a proactive change leader, guiding the organization through complex operational and technological change by aligning stakeholders, addressing resistance, and driving sustained adoption of new ways of working.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.

Proven ability to translate strategy into execution and deliver results in a matrix organization.

Experience in the Motor Vehicle Industry and/or General Industry with knowledge of customer applications and manufacturing processes.

Demonstrated leadership experience building and developing high-performing teams.

Experience with the design, manufacturing, and project delivery of customized assembly or automation solutions.

Prior P&L ownership or strong financial accountability preferred.

Ability to travel within North America and internationally as required.

Job Location This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, allowing you to split your time between working remotely and being on-site at our Air Way Automation location in Grayling MI, United States (US).
