Same Day Surgery Unit

at Northland Medical Center in Princeton, MN. This is a great opportunity for an RN who thrives in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment.

Our Same Day Surgery nurses deliver

high-quality, compassionate care

to patients before and after same-day procedures, as well as surgeries occurring prior to or during hospital admission. You’ll play a key role in supporting patients and families through

pre-operative phone calls, in-person care during their stay, and post-operative follow-up calls , providing both emotional support and clear education every step of the way.

With a

high-turnover, short-stay patient population , this role is ideal for nurses with strong assessment skills, a collaborative mindset, and the flexibility to adapt to changing situations while working as part of a supportive team.

Schedule This SAU/PACU nursing position will be working casual hours every two weeks on the day/evening shifts. You will need to be within 30 minutes of Princeton, MN.

Responsibilities

Assesses patients, patient condition, according to Perioperative Policy and ASPAN Standards:

Completes initial and ongoing assessments of Perianesthesia patients.

Completes an initial patient assessment upon the patient’s arrival into the Perianesthesia area.

Completes ongoing assessments according to the patient’s condition and FLMC Perioperative Services policy.

Gathers information about the patient from (but not limited to) the patient, the surgeon, OR Nurse, the anesthetist, the patient’s chart and previous caregivers.

Reviews medications the patient has received.

Documents assessments according to patient condition and Perioperative Services policies and documentation guidelines in accordance with ASPAN Standards of care.

Applies nursing plan of care

Provides continuity of care

Individualizes plan for the patient

Identifies expected outcomes in the pre and post-anesthesia setting:

Care planning in the pre-op area is documented in the electronic medical record (EMR) using PNDS (perioperative nursing data set)

Identifies variances and documents them in the EMR

Provides appropriate hand off to receiving patient care area

Interventions are based on patient assessment in accordance with ASPAN Standards

Provides an appropriate environment for patient recovery

Responds appropriately to perianesthesia emergent situations

Prioritizes interventions based on patient condition and patient assignment

Medicates the patient according to patient condition and physician orders

Transports patients to receiving area according to patient status and policy

Documents interventions and patient response

Evaluates care, adapts interventions and prioritizes care based on patient assessment in accordance with ASPAN Standards.

Assesses patients’ response to interventions and formulates new nursing plan of care based on patients’ responses

Prioritizes care based on the acuity of the patient.

Uses other resources within the department to respond to emergency situations.

Utilizes information management systems in the Perianesthesia Department

Utilizes the EMR for documentation and patient tracking

The Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient population(s). The RN is responsible for performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act. The RN coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate.

Required Qualifications

MN RN License

One year recent RN PACU experience (within the last three years)

BLS and ACLS upon hire

PALS within 3 months of hire

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing

2 years of recent RN PACU experience
