Job Overview This job assesses patients and safely performs routine radiographic procedures in accordance with prescribed safety procedures and protocols. Serves as a clinical mentor for junior staff and students.

Responsibilities

Verifies physician order and procedure to ensure accuracy.

Uses radiology information systems to facilitate care.

Explains procedure to patient to ensure understanding.

Independently operates equipment to complete imaging procedures according to protocol (may include placement of nasogastric tubes, IVs, urinary catheters, and administration of contrast).

Reviews patient images prior to transmission to ensure images meet diagnostic quality standards.

Completes timely quality control procedures in accordance with regulatory standards and performs notification/remediation as warranted.

Assists in the facilitation of departmental operations (inventory, staff schedules, equipment maintenance, etc.).

Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.

Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education: Completion of an approved radiologic technology program.

Experience: None required. Preferred: Radiologic Technology Experience.

Certifications: Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) OR ARRT registry eligible, registered by the ARRT within 90 days of employment, and temporary state license required. Current unrestricted license in the state of practice. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications; effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally; strong interpersonal skills; ability to work a flexible work schedule (e.g., 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability) and travel throughout and between facilities.

Physical and Environmental Demands

Heavy Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue.

Occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment.
