Responsibilities Responsible and accountable for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care for the postoperative patient in accordance with the plan of care, established hospital and departmental policies, procedures, and standards of care. Communicates findings as indicated to appropriate persons and documents same in the patient's medical record. Responsible for managing/overseeing the care and services provided by ancillary and other professionals. Responsible for managing supplies and other equipment within the unit. Develops and maintains a collaborative and collegial relationship with physicians and interdepartmental personnel as they relate to the care of the postoperative patient. Maintains competent post‑anesthesia skill level to ensure provision of safe quality patient care. The RN assures that the philosophy, mission, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of Mercy are followed. Is sensitive to the needs of patients, families, and co‑workers; plans and provides professional nursing care for patients in accordance with age‑specific needs, cultural diversity needs (such as religions, lifestyles, beliefs, physical capabilities, and cultures); ensures appropriate and effective pain management; assesses, reports, and assists any patients that present with evidence of abuse and/or neglect; and supports the mission of Mercy. Co‑workers are expected to abide by Mercy safety and infection control policies to maintain a safe environment for patients and co‑workers. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

Position Details

Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing school.

Licensure: RN licensure in the state of practice.

Experience: 1 year hospital or medical‑surgical experience preferred.

Certifications: CPR and ACLS.

Preferred Experience: 2 years hospital medical‑surgical experience.
