Responsibilities

Provide exceptional patient care

Assistance to ophthalmologists

Perform testing for diagnostic evaluation of the visual system

Assist in in‑office procedures and treatments

Actively monitor clinic workflow

Assist in research studies

Support training and coordination of other ophthalmic team members

Assist in onboarding new employees

Required Qualifications

High school graduation

Minimum 2 years experience as an ophthalmic technician (COA or equivalent)

Commitment to prioritizing the welfare of research volunteers

Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail

Uncompromising integrity

Willingness to learn and adapt to changing positional needs

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook or equivalent)

Senior Level

Minimum 10 years experience as an Ophthalmic Technician

Certification as an Ophthalmic Technician (COT) required

Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records and medical terminology desirable

Primary source verification required

Intermediate Level

5 years experience as an Ophthalmic Technician

Certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant (COA)

Respectful and compassionate attitude

Maintain confidentiality and documentation guidelines

Collaborative, demonstrates integrity

Organized, coordinate multiple items

Excellent computer skills, data entry, analysis, graphing, Microsoft Office

Familiarity with electronic equipment

Primary source verification required

Associate Level

Completion of Michigan Medicine’s 12‑week training program required or equivalent experience

Certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) within one year of employment

Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records and medical terminology desirable

Primary source verification required

Desired Qualifications

Two years of college with health science courses

Modes of Work Positions eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually and may be changed as needed.

Background Screening Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre‑employment drug testing upon acceptance of a contingent job offer, following the Fair Credit Report Act. All selected candidates undergo testing.
