Supervisor Phlebotomy - UNCH Laboratory Eastowne

Job Summary The Phlebotomy Supervisor is responsible for the daily supervision of phlebotomy operations within their specified location, including scheduling, specimen collection, labeling, receipt, processing, delivery, and archiving. The incumbent performs, teaches, and monitors all functions within the laboratory, and works and communicates with various health professionals throughout the organization to complete daily tasks.
Schedule
8:30 AM – 5:00 PM (with some flexibility).
Job Responsibilities
Supervises all phlebotomy activities, including scheduling, training, evaluation, and documentation of staff performance.
Hiring and training of new phlebotomists.
Ensures specimen integrity by enforcing laboratory procedures for collection, handling, and processing.
Maintains, implements, adheres to, and enforces departmental operating policies and procedures, including quality control, quality assurance, and safety.
Provides orientation and training for staff to ensure comprehension of company policies and procedures.
Performs blood collection (venipuncture and fingerstick).
Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures.
Processes samples for appropriate storage and transport to the laboratory.
Enters patient demographic and insurance information into the laboratory information system.
Enters laboratory orders into the laboratory information system.
Makes phlebotomy rounds as scheduled.
Follows patient identification process.
Answers questions and resolves problems related to test requisitions, specimen requirements, test additions, priority changes (routine to STAT and vice versa), and patient results using the Lab information system or other data retrieval systems.
Supervises the recording of all statistical information.
Ensures that all specimen collections and processing comply with UMHC guidelines.
Tracks collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection; maintains daily tallies of collections performed.
Continues to monitor and improve internal processes within the phlebotomy department.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements
High School degree or equivalent.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
Successful completion of Phlebotomist training with certification as a Phlebotomist required.
Professional Experience Requirements
Five (5) years of relevant experience performing phlebotomy functions in a medical setting. Prior management experience preferred. Ability to use a computer and type.
