Overview
Townsen Memorial Hospital is looking for a Pharmacist to join our West, Houston (77072) team! This role will require travel between facilities in Humble and Houston.
Responsible for the dispensing and procurement of medicinal products and supplies used in the hospital.
Essential Functions
Dispensing prescription medicines and supplies
Working with other medical personnel to provide treatments and advice to patients
Recording patient histories relating to medicinal use
Ensuring the safe and secure storage of all medicines and hospital supplies
Prepare medicines and conduct quality checks in instances when individual drug components need to be mixed before treating patients
Stay up to date on pharmacy regulations, treatments and developments in research and design
Serves patients by preparing medications, giving pharmacological information to multidisciplinary health care team, and monitoring patient drug therapies
Prepares medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders and detecting therapeutic incompatibilities
Dispenses medications by compounding, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals
Controls medications by monitoring drug therapies; advising interventions
Completes pharmacy operational requirements by organizing and directing technicians’ workflow, verifying their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals, and verifying order entries, charges, and inspections
Provides pharmacological information by answering questions and requests of health care professionals and counseling patients on drug therapies
Develops hospital staff’s pharmacological knowledge by participating in clinical programs and training pharmacy staff, students, interns, externs, residents, and health care professionals
Complies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy, the drug enforcement administration, and the food and drug administration by monitoring nursing unit inspection
Maintains records for controlled substances and removes outdated and damaged drugs from the pharmacy inventory
Supervises the work results of support personnel
Maintains current registration, studies existing and new legislation, anticipates legislation, and advises management on needed actions
Protects patients and technicians by adhering to infection‑control protocols
Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
Performs other related duties as assigned to support the hospital
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of pharmacology principles and procedures and the laws and regulations pertaining to the receipt, storage, and dispensation of drugs.
Skill in the operation of pharmaceutical equipment and in the use of a computer and applicable software.
Ability to prepare and dispense pharmaceuticals; to evaluate drug therapies; to interpret and apply policies, laws, and rules; to communicate effectively; and to supervise the work of others.
Education and Experience
Graduate degree from an accredited pharmacy college recognized by the American Council of Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE)
Registered Pharmacist in the State of Texas; License must remain active and unencumbered while employed
Basic Life Support (BLS) certified
