Business Development Engineer
Location: New Orleans, LA (Onsite) Division: Intralox Category: Engineering
Position Overview Intralox is seeking a Business Development Engineer who enjoys working at the intersection of customer challenges, technical innovation, and commercial strategy. This role is ideal for an engineer who is naturally curious, comfortable navigating ambiguity, and motivated by understanding both customer needs and business impact. You will help shape new product opportunities by translating real‑world customer problems into innovative, manufacturable, and commercially viable solutions—partnering closely with engineering, commercial teams, and customers throughout the process.
Key Responsibilities
Own the new product development process from problem definition through early sales efforts
Capture and synthesize voice‑of‑customer insights to inform product direction
Connect commercial needs with technical solutions
Develop and cultivate product development vision in partnership with assigned commercial segments
Identify and translate economic drivers behind customer decision‑making into product implications
Collaborate with commercial teams to communicate technical functionality and customer value of new products
Work cross‑functionally to:
Support patent development with in‑house patent attorneys
Validate product performance through internal and field testing
Develop product designs, documentation, and support materials
Required Qualifications
B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline (Controls or Electrical Engineering considered with strong mechanical interest)
Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
Ability to work onsite in the New Orleans office
Ability to meet functional job requirements in industrial environments (e.g., climbing ladders)
Willingness to travel approximately 30%
Candidates must be able to reliably commute to our New Orleans, LA office
Preferred Qualifications
High level of mechanical aptitude
Academic or practical experience in business, commercial strategy, or customer‑facing roles
Proficiency with SolidWorks®, Pro‑E®, or similar CAD tools
Experience in product design and development
Exposure to project management or project planning
