Our work is driven by purpose, fueled by curiosity, and built on collaboration. From visionary schools and innovative workplaces to civic and cultural spaces, we approach every project with creativity, technical excellence, and a deep commitment to sustainability and inclusion. We\'re proud to offer a workplace culture that values people as much as process. At SHP, you\'ll find a team that supports your growth, challenges your thinking, and celebrates your contributions. Whether you\'re designing, engineering, managing, or supporting our projects, your work will matter - and so will you. Join us, and help shape what\'s next. The Opportunity
As a Senior Project Manager at SHP, you\'ll provide leadership across multiple complex projects, serving as a trusted advisor to clients and a steady guide for internal teams. This role is designed for an experienced professional who brings confidence, foresight, and clarity to project delivery and enjoys mentoring others while shaping how work gets done. You\'ll oversee project performance from pursuit through closeout, balancing client needs, team capacity, and financial health. In partnership with Project Architects and firm leadership, you\'ll help drive consistent delivery, strengthen client relationships, and elevate SHP\'s project management practices across markets. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of execution, collaboration, and people leadership and who wants to make a lasting impact on both projects and the firm. Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously, typically varying in size and complexity. Serve as the primary client relationship manager, ensuring alignment, responsiveness, and trust. Oversee project scope, schedule, staffing, and financial performance from initiation through completion. Partner closely with Project Architects and discipline leaders to align design intent, execution, and delivery approach. Anticipate and manage project risks, changes, and opportunities proactively. Guide contract negotiations, consultant coordination, and fee management. Mentor and support Project Managers and emerging leaders through coaching, delegation, and feedback. Contribute to firmwide project management standards, tools, and process improvements. Support business development efforts, including pursuits, interviews, and client engagement as needed. Key Requirements
Education & Credentials
Bachelor\'s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field required. Professional certifications (PMP, CCM, or similar) are a plus. Experience
Extensive experience managing architectural or A/E projects through all phases. Demonstrated success leading complex, multi-stakeholder projects, ideally within education, civic, or institutional markets. Proven track record of managing project financials, contracts, and client relationships at a senior level. Leadership & Project Expertise
Strong understanding of project delivery methods, risk management, and consultant coordination. Ability to think holistically while remaining engaged in day-to-day execution. Experience mentoring others and building high-performing project teams. Communication & Decisioning
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Comfortable leading client conversations, resolving challenges, and making informed decisions. Collaborative, calm under pressure, and solutions-focused. Location & Travel Expectations
This role is based in one of our physical office locations—Cincinnati, OH; Columbus, OH; or Greensboro, NC—and is ideal for candidates who thrive in a highly collaborative, in-person environment. Being onsite allows for deeper day-to-day engagement with peers and project teams, faster decision making, and organic moments of creativity and mentorship that emerge through shared space. At the same time, many of our most meaningful opportunities—client-facing and internal—happen beyond the walls of the office. Travel is a key part of how we build relationships, gather insight from the people we design for, and bring our ideas to life alongside clients and partners. Whether it\'s participating in discovery sessions, facilitating workshops, or gaining on-the-ground understanding of a project\'s context, travel enables us to show up where it matters. Candidates for this role should be willing and able to travel as needed, often with short notice, to support firmwide priorities, strengthen client connections, and grow their impact across markets. We view this flexibility as a way to expand visibility, build trust, and access the kind of hands-on experiences that fuel career growth. EOE Statement: SHP is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status.
