Assistant Controller – Oil & Gas Accounting & Consulting We are looking for an Assistant Controller to join our Oil & Gas Accounting & Consulting team. The role reports to the Energy Practice Leader and involves developing tools, systems, and processes for upstream accounting clients while overseeing the operations of the Oil and Gas Consulting Group in Dallas and Houston.

Responsibilities

Work closely with the Energy Practice Market Leader to develop tools, systems, and processes for Oil & Gas Upstream accounting clients.

Oversee operations of the Oil and Gas Accounting group, including design of organizational structure, supervision of associates, client satisfaction, planning, scheduling, and staffing.

Set up and implement accounting functions/processes related to O&G Upstream accounting.

Develop comprehensive client service plans for engagements in collaboration with the team.

Identify and research technical issues to ensure compliance with relevant rules, guidelines, and standards.

Ensure processes and deliverables meet professional and firm standards.

Participate in firm committees, departmental matters, learning experiences, and contribute to policy improvements.

Monitor engagement teams and client relationships; remove barriers and resolve conflicts.

Serve clients in a consultative role, identifying value-added services and proactively interacting with key client management.

Own and monitor client relationships throughout engagements; communicate progress, problems, and resolutions.

Monitor budgets by reviewing WIP in Practice Manager and address overages promptly.

Prepare invoices, communicate fees, and assist in collection of overdue accounts.

Engage in practice development through community participation and proposal opportunities.

Provide training for associates, review work, and participate in performance management.

Develop coaching and managerial skills and create developmental plans for team members.

Retain and develop staff through training materials and professional development programs.

Participate in technical and professional training throughout the year.

Contribute to the firm’s annual performance management and goal‑setting process.

Qualifications

8+ years of experience in Oil & Gas accounting and analysis, primarily with Upstream/E&P.

Experience setting up accounting functions/processes and implementation acumen.

Experience with Ogsys accounting software (OGsql and OGpro) and/or WolfePak.

BA or Master’s in accounting; APA preferred.

Proficiency in technology and accounting programs.

Extensive knowledge of GAAP for Oil & Gas upstream/E&P and federal & state reporting requirements.

Professional appearance, demeanor, and positive attitude.

Strong organizational and time‑management skills.

Ability to analyze problems, recommend solutions, assess risk, and apply professional judgment.

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

Ability to lead and work respectfully with diverse individuals.

Well‑developed management and supervisory skills.
