At GE Aerospace in Vandalia, we specialize in manufacturing and servicing world-class power generation and electrical control and distribution equipment for a variety of aerospace customers.
The Lead Manufacturing Engineer within the Product Development Lab will work on Power generation products for both the Military and Commercial Programs. In this role, you will work closely with Design engineers to improve the manufacturability of the design and then with the assemblers & technicians to layout the most efficient process to manufacture these products. You truly will be part of the team that "Invents the future of Flight".
Notes This role will sit onsite at the Vandalia, OH facility 5 days per week.
No remote or hybrid option.
Start time can vary between 6-7am Monday-Friday.
End time can vary based on business needs.
Job Description Roles and Responsibilities
Develop manufacturing processes for New Product Introduction (NPI), document process changes, drive process/fixture improvements, drive lead/cycle time improvements, cost of quality (COQ), and Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) actions.
Lead Root Cause & Corrective Action activity related to concerns that arise thru the manufacturing NPI process.
Create & maintain schedules to achieve project targets
Ensure manufacturing tooling, fixtures and processes are ESD and EHS compliant per site policies
Participate in LEAN initiatives and engage Six Sigma tools for process improvements
Use production and quality data to drive and implement process improvements to reduce costs and cycles
Design and model necessary tooling & fixtures for manufacturing and process improvements
Define cost estimates for hardware development and capital improvement projects
Manage multiple projects by providing scheduling, resource management, budget control and EHS compliance
Ability to work in a matrixed organization and work collaboratively in a cross-functional environment to meet customer milestones and complete projects on time and within budget.
Ensure proper documentation for manufacturing processes, engineering designs and technical data to provide an accurate technical/historical base for future reference and to meet customer requirements.
Lead and effectively interface with manufacturing, engineering, sourcing, and other support teams to complete projects to meet EHS, production, quality, cost, and new product development goals within schedule and budget.
Successfully lead the transition of the manufacturing process to the production cell, maintaining responsibility for the process in production.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 6 years of experience in an engineering role)
A minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing and/or engineering role
Additional Information
This position requires U.S. citizenship status.
Ability and willingness to sit onsite at the GE Aerospace facility in Vandalia, OH 5 days per week
Start time for this role can vary between 6:00-7:00am eastern
A typical work day will require 8-10 working hours based on business needs
Desired Characteristics
Previous fast paced manufacturing experience
Previous experience with root cause analysis
Strong oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems
Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs
Established project management skills.
3D modeling experience, preferably Siemens NX
