Job Overview The APN is a licensed independent practitioner who is responsible for managing health problems and coordinating health care for children in accordance with professional standards and hospital guidelines.
The APN works collaboratively with other members of the medical staff to provide care to patients in the inpatient acute rehabilitation or long‑term care setting.
The APN possesses a comprehensive knowledge base established within a sound theoretical framework and utilizes advanced assessment skills, specialty expertise, and age‑appropriate interventions.
The APN provides staff and patient education and is an integral member of the health care team.
The APN will provide bedside clinical and on‑call coverage of patient care areas in CSH Inpatient settings and will share in these responsibilities with other members of the Inpatient team.
Qualifications Required:
Masters or doctoral degree in advanced practice nursing in field related to area of hire
Minimum of 3 to 5 years nursing experience,
Must have RN license from State of NJ
Must have APN certification from the State of NJ Must have current national certification in area of specialty
American Heart Association AHA BLS and PALS Provider Certification required
Preferred:
Prior experience working with infants, children and young adults with medical complexity desired
Prior experience working with infants, children and young adults with medical complexity desired

Essential Functions
Provides thorough medical care to patients admitted to CSH Inpatient facilities, leading the multidisciplinary team with the goal of helping children reach their full potential
Provides on call coverage as needed on a rotating basis Demonstrates understanding of diagnosis pertinent medical findings, rationale for and goals of treatment, and medical interventions for patients through practice and written documentation
Initiates, directs and leads teams to meet comprehensive medical patient care needs, utilizing quality and cost effective methods
Utilizes HRO High Reliability Organization tools and techniques to elevate patient safety and effective communication
Serves as care coordinator as dictated by the site of practice e.g, Pediatric Acute Rehabilitation or Long Term Care
Recognizes the need for continuity and completeness of care, above and beyond basic needs
Communicates and incorporates relevant research findings into practice, education and consultation
Motivates staff to improve their performance, continuously, leading to improved department performance
Maximizes potential of self and colleagues by supporting professional growth and attending and conducting training and orientation sessions
Maintains credentials and continuing education according to professional practice standards and relevant statues and regulations
Coordinates the development and implementation of policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services to meet customer expectations
Develops and maintains cooperative relationships with colleagues as well as external contacts Develops and implements a Joint Protocol specific to their clinical practice area and consults with collaborating physicians as established in the joint protocol
Collaborates with the full interdisciplinary team, including patients and families and all other areas of the organization to ensure the development and implementation of Patient and Family Centered Care practices
Participates in team meetings and conferences when available to enhance an interdisciplinary approach to health care delivery
Participates in the education of students by serving as a lecturer and precepting students in the clinical area
Maintains accurate billing and provides outpatient services to pediatric patients as needed
Identifies knowledge and skill needs through self assessment and annual performance evaluation
