Non-Commissioned Detention Officers perform duties required to maintain the care and custody of inmates while preventing escapes.

Responsibilities
Ensure the safety and security of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office jail
Responsible for the security and supervision of inmates, including booking and releasing
Enforce facility rule violations, conducting searches and inspections, surveillance of all inmates including inmate headcounts, door checks, strip searches, and cell inspections
Supervise inmate meals, visitation, and other activities
Involved in monitoring contraband, suicide attempts, or escape attempts
Resolve disputes involving inmates
Other job-related duties requested by the Supervisor
Qualifications
High School/GED Certificate
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be a U.S. Citizen and resident of the contiguous United States for a period of time sufficient to conduct a background investigation
Must possess a current valid Texas driver's license and proof of liability insurance with no more than 3 moving violations in the past 3 years
Must have favorable employment history. All information given regarding past employment will be thoroughly checked
Must possess good computer skills and demonstrate comprehensive reading
No conviction above a Class B Misdemeanor or a Class B Misdemeanor within the last 10 years nor have been on or currently on court-ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense
Applicant must pass all phases of the required testing
Must be eligible for licensing by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) if not presently licensed
Must attend 96 hour Jailer Certification course in order to receive Jailer License within 1 year of MCSO employment
Ability to physically perform tasks including, but not limited to, standing, kneeling, bending, and walking for long periods of time
Must be physically able to restrain inmates if necessary
Must possess good verbal communication skills
Testing Information Applicants must be able to take and pass the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Detention Officer Testing. All testing is facilitated in the MCSO Recruiting Division Office located at 1 Criminal Justice Dr., Conroe, Texas, 77301. Testing score requirements for this position are:
Consists of math, reading, and grammar; must pass exam by 70%
Agility Course: timed IAT agility course to be completed in 40 seconds, includes a 175lb red-man dummy drag
Shift Hours Must be able to work 12-hour shifts with alternating 2-3 consecutive days on shift with 2-3 days off shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Shift times are 6am - 6pm or 6pm - 6am. Overtime may be available.
Additional Information After receiving a conditional job offer, an applicant must pass the following before becoming an employee of Montgomery County:
Drug screen (1/2 cost = $25, responsibility of applicant)
Physical agility test (1/2 cost = $22.50, responsibility of applicant)
Medical non-DOT physical (responsibility of applicant)
Psychological exam with our selected psychologist (MCSO pays full cost of $200.00)
