ABOUT ADVENTHEALTH CENTRAL TEXAS AdventHealth Central Texas is a 230‑bed acute‑care hospital with a Level IV Trauma designation. Located in Killeen, the medical center offers a wide range of clinical and surgical services including a 24/7 emergency department, cardiovascular care, orthopedics, diagnostic imaging, and more. Through various contracts with AdventHealth, Baylor Scott & White Health provides hospitalist, anesthesiologist, physician, nurse practitioner, and CRNA support to meet staffing needs. Additionally, five Baylor Scott & White Health clinics—three care clinics, a specialty clinic, and McLane Children’s Scott & White Clinic—provide physician services to patients in the Killeen community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

Assess the physical and mental condition of patients by performing comprehensive or problem‑focused examinations and obtaining medical histories.

Order, collect, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs.

Prescribe, recommend, or employ medical drug therapies or other treatments, and perform indicated procedures per approved protocols with attention to efficacy, safety, and cost.

Formulate and implement comprehensive outcomes‑based treatment plans in collaboration with physicians and interdisciplinary team members.

Counsel patients and families on medical processes, medication, nutrition, and health promotion, including drug interactions and side effects.

Maintain records detailing treatment plans and outcomes, and initiate timely consultation and referral when necessary.

Provide consultation‑level services for conditions related to the provider’s specialty and training.

Manage patients in settings other than the primary clinic (e.g., inpatient, emergency services, procedural).

Perform invasive procedures specific to scope of practice and competency as delegated by supervising physician.

May be required to perform patient care duties beyond regular schedule based on department coverage needs.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

Knowledge of diagnosis and treatment of human injuries, diseases, and deformities.

Understanding of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosing, treating, and rehabilitating physical and mental dysfunctions.

Verbal and written communication skills.

Interpersonal skills.

Critical thinking and complex problem‑solving skills.

Proficiency in computer and related software applications.

Ability to develop and implement comprehensive outcomes‑based treatment plans.

Ability to counsel patients on medical and psychosocial conditions, treatment plans, and behavior modification.

Ability to interpret and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic tests.

Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in Texas.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire or transfer.

Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA).

SCHEDULE Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Outpatient setting 14–16 patients per day Primary clinic: Killeen; secondary clinic: Temple

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduate of an accredited program.

Experience: Less than 1 year of experience.

Certification/License/Registration:

BLS certification within 30 days of hire or transfer.

Physician Assistant license in the state of Texas.
