Summary The Enteral Feeding Lab (EFL) Dietetic Technician will coordinate all daily activities of the EFL and is responsible for the calculation, preparation, delivery, and monitoring of specialized infant formula, modulated infant or pediatric formulas and medical nutrition supplements. The EFL Dietetic Technician is responsible for complying with all Children's of Alabama and Department policies, and regulations related to the operation of the EFL. The EFL Dietetic Technician is responsible for communication of problems related to formulas, formula orders, storage, delivery or administration to the healthcare team and clinical staff. The EFL Dietetic Technician is responsible for inventory management and procurement of formula and supplies for the EFL.

Other Information Working knowledge of measures used for liquids and solids, blender and kitchen equipment. Working knowledge of enteral feeding equipment, gram scale, laminar airflow hood, scales (digital and balance) is required. Working knowledge of general office equipment (such as, but not limited to, facsimile machine, photocopier, label printer) is required.

Basic knowledge of hardware (personal computer) and a working knowledge of Windows OS and Microsoft Office Suite software are required. Working knowledge of handheld calculators is required.

INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATIONS Must have good interpersonal communication skills (written and verbal, including public speaking) and demonstrate positive interpersonal relations. Exchanges information with: nursing, medical, and allied healthcare staff which includes, but is not limited to, Pharmacy, Food Service, Clinical Nutrition, Central Transportation, Environmental Services, Biomedical Engineering, and Central Distribution staff, vendors (for pharmaceutical, medical nutritional, and food products), and job applicants. Participates in meetings and one-on-one communications on a regular basis. Conducts training sessions occasionally. Communicates task assignments and gives direction to students, dietetic interns and volunteers.

Advises/consults with: patients/families, dietetic interns, students and volunteers, residents/medical staff allied healthcare professionals, external healthcare agencies, and clinical nutrition staff.

Negotiates/influences: Nursing, Food Service, Pharmacy, and residents/medical staff.

Education with Equivalent Qualifications Essential:

Bachelors of Science or Arts in Nutrition and Dietetics

Experience with Equivalent Qualifications Nonessential:

1 Year job experience as Staff Level with specialization in the field of Nutrition
