Senior Network Engineer

Job Purpose
The Senior Network Engineer is a technical position responsible for performing various work functions in support of the Herc Rentals enterprise network. This position will require in-depth technical knowledge to facilitate the design, install and management of enterprise networking solutions and associated components. This will include the high‑level input on system architecture and design changes, analysis and resolution of system hardware, software, and networking issues.
What you will do
Responsible for configuration, implementation, and support for network installations as necessary.
Provide network support and troubleshooting network solutions for an enterprise network.
Work with customers, vendors, and technical teams to prospect and develop network design, installation, and support opportunities.
Create and maintain comprehensive documentation as it relates to network technologies, network topology, network equipment, and configuration(s).
Ability to document standards, methods and produce drawings of environments.
Analyze system reports, error logs and activity and initiate system enhancements as needed.
Provide Engineering level support for incident and problem management.
Oversee Managed Services to ensure network incidents and problems are appropriately resolved or escalated within SLA.
Interact with customers and establish customer relationships to gather and analyze customer needs, assess available resources, and determine optimal solutions.
Develop project plans incorporating resource estimates for project tasks & manage projects as assigned.
Collaborate with senior members of the enterprise infrastructure teams.
Advise management on technology roadmaps, evaluate vendor products, & make recommendations on product/service selection & current system upgrades.
Requirements
BA/BS University degree or similar experience
Cisco CCNP certification
Participate in after‑hours upgrades, troubleshooting, and/on‑call availability
Maintaining an established work schedule and providing on‑call assistance, including nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
Train, educate and mentor staff, as necessary
Experience with large‑scale Cisco enterprise networking solutions including design, implementation, and support.
5+ years' experience installing, upgrading, and maintaining Cisco ISR routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
Experience maintaining network performance through network monitoring and analysis, QoS/service implementation, and performance tuning; troubleshooting network problems.
Comprehensive understanding of network protocols such as BGP, OSPF, & EIGRP.
Experience with LAN hardware including patch panels, Fiber Optic, Cat5e and Cat 6 wiring.
Solid understanding of IP routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP) Cisco ASA, Routing, Switching, QoS, Meraki WAP, SolarWinds Monitoring TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, VPN, DMVPN, SDWAN.
A strong working knowledge of technologies surrounding a network infrastructure.
Experience supporting IP Telephony, Linux, Microsoft Server, Windows, and SolarWinds monitoring tools.
Knowledge of carrier services and interfaces.
Working knowledge of Cisco UCS and VMware virtual environments.
Skills
Provide timely and accurate project status updates to customer contacts and management.
Ability to handle a growing, fast paced environment.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and with written documentation.
Ability to apply judgment, implement solutions, and resolve conflicts, all in a multi‑tasked environment.
Proficient at customer knowledge transfer and documentation.
Strong attention to detail in‑regard to project planning and documentation.
Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
