Position Summary The Clinical Nurse II (CN II) is a Registered Nurse providing safe, therapeutic, and recovery-oriented nursing care to patients in the Behavioral Health unit. Reporting to the Nurse Manager, the CN II collaborates with an interdisciplinary care team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for patients experiencing acute psychiatric conditions, emotional distress, substance use disorders, and co-occurring medical needs. This role requires strong clinical judgment, effective de‑escalation skills, and the ability to maintain a safe, structured, and supportive therapeutic milieu. The CN II practices alignment with professional nursing standards, hospital policies, and a Just Culture framework.

Key Responsibilities

Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care at the bedside (40%).

Document patient care and outcomes electronically; ensure continuity among nursing teams (20%).

Delegate tasks to non‑licensed personnel and assistants (10%).

Participate in unit performance improvement programs and committees (5%).

Adhere to infection‑control policies, medication administration protocols, and controlled substance regulations (5%).

Serve as charge nurse when approved by the Nurse Manager (5%).

Maintain professional knowledge through education and networking (5%).

Ensure proper equipment operation and preventive maintenance (5%).

Perform additional duties as assigned (5%).

Required Qualifications

Associate’s Degree in Nursing; (BSN preferred)

Active DC RN license

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association

Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience or completion of HUH’s Professional Nurses Clinical Advancement Program (PNCAP) with 18 months of employment at HUH

Ability to work effectively in high-acuity, fast‑paced, and emotionally complex environments

Demonstrated skills in crisis intervention, de‑escalation, and conflict resolution

Strong prioritization, communication, and teamwork skills

Knowledge of psychiatric nursing principles, safety protocols, and patient rights
