Oak Hill sets the standard, partnering with people with disabilities, to provide services and solutions promoting independence, education, health, and dignity.
In keeping with Oak Hill mission, the Speech Pathologist facilitates development and rehabilitation of students with multiple disabilities by planning and administering medically prescribed speech pathology to enhance students’ health, independence, and quality of life.
Staff training & Student information: develops staff and facilities continuation of speech/language therapeutic care by providing information; developing and conducting in service training; records and maintains pertinent information regarding student’ speech pathology plans including progress notes for department records; maintains student confidence and protects agency operations by keeping information confidential.
Therapeutic Requirements: promotes maximum independence by selecting and constructing therapies according to individual speech/language capacity, intelligence level and interest; evaluates results of speech therapy by observing, noting, evaluating students’ progress; recommends and implements adjustments and modifications; consults with physicians, nurses, social workers, other therapists, teachers, program specialist and other members of the team to obtain information to support meeting students’ speech/language therapeutic needs. Writes measurable quarterly progress reports, annual reviews & additional information as required.
Treatment Plans: meets students’ speech language pathology goals and needs by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results; determining speech language pathology treatment plans in consultation with Interdisciplinary Team, or prescription.
Implementing Programing: assists students in developing or regaining speech functioning or adjusting to disabilities by implementing programs that support speech language pathology methods working with the teacher, direct care staff and other team members.
Complies with Oak Hill’s policies, and procedures pertaining to staff in general, and the position of Speech Language Pathology in particular, by becoming familiar with and adhering to such policies and procedures
Valid State of Connecticut Speech pathology license
5 – 10 years of experience in an educational environment or experience working with individuals with disabilities within an instructional setting.
