About this position The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing compassionate quality care that is customer and family focused. The RN assesses, diagnoses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents care of customers according to hospital and care center policies and standards of professional nursing practices. The RN is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered. The RN defines, implements, and improves practice standards and environment of care while promoting exceptional customer care. Duties may vary based on the assigned customer care center which may include differences in the required specific clinical skills. Actively and consistently demonstrates the mission, vision, values and guiding principles of Maple Grove Hospital.

FBC RN: SPECIFIC ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Reviews maternal prenatal history

Collects current signs/symptoms of the newborn, mother, or child

Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate customer plan of care

Performs transition, admission, discharge and transfer assessments while considering both physical and psychosocial elements of newborn, child, mother, and family

Recognizes risk factors, changes in status and interventions appropriate for care

Initiates corrective action whenever information from monitoring equipment shows adverse symptomatology of the newborn, child, or mother

Manages basic life support needs and stabilizes newborn, child, or mother until the physician or APRN is available, based upon nursing standards and protocol

Records customer’s vital signs, assessments, patient care and interventions as ordered

Works directly with physicians or APRN, assisting them during exams, diagnostic testing, treatments and interventions

Participates and collaborates in multidisciplinary rounds

Prepares and administers (orally, subcutaneously, IM and IV) medications and records prescribed medications

Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the policy

Demonstrates phlebotomy skills

Provides IV therapy

Provides bedside care

Operates, maintains and discontinues proper supplies and appropriate medical equipment to care for customers

Reports any suspected abuse to the appropriate agencies

Teaches child, parents, and significant others how to manage care or illness by explaining: post‑treatment home care needs, diet/nutrition/exercise programs, self‑administration of medication and rehabilitation, as well as provides referrals to other healthcare professionals for follow‑up treatment

Displays professionalism while completing multiple urgent tasks in a timely manner

Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format in Epic

NICU:

Work collaboratively with essential ancillary departments that support the NICU

Provide care for Level II babies that include but not limited to: feed/grow babies, neonatal abstinence, late preterm infants, nasal cannula, IVF and antibiotics

Follow NRP guidelines

Utilize critical thinking and collaborate with NICU provider team

Labor and Delivery:

Utilize critical thinking and collaborate with Ob/GYN provider teams

Perform fetal monitoring and interpretations utilizing NICHD/AWHONN nomenclature and guidelines

Provide care to low risk inductions/scheduled/unscheduled C/S and provide follow recovery care of mother and baby during recovery period

Post Partum:

Provide care for but not limited to mothers/baby couplet care of: day of delivery vaginal births, non‑complicated post C/S births, healthy infants

Requirements Education

Associate’s degree in nursing; bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.

Experience

Internal Applicants:

Minimum of one year RN FBC hospital experience required in any of the combined populations of NICU, L&D, or 2 years of PP.

External Applicants:

Minimum of two years of RN FBC hospital experience required in any of the combined populations of NICU or L&D.

Demonstrated ability to maintain composure in high stress situations, acts quickly in response to critical situations. Solid PC skills to include MS applications, Internet, etc.

Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to express ideas and information (both in written and oral form), clearly and concisely in a manner appropriate to the audience.

Demonstrated ability to deal with conflict in a positive manner. Has an awareness of, responds to, and considers the needs, feelings and capabilities of others.

Ability to be accountable for quality customer service and respond appropriately to a variety of personalities and situations.

Ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards.

Must be able to read, write and speak effectively in English.

Current licensure and registration as an RN in the State of MN. Current BLS certification for all areas of nursing practice required.

Current certification required for the following areas of nursing practice:

Emergency Care Center – ACLS, TNCC, PALS

Intensive Care Center & MSCC Lead – ACLS

L&D – NRP, AWHONN's Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring Course (one time only) – Experienced L&D nurses will obtain within 6 months and new L&D nurses will obtain at 1 year of experience

NICU– NRP, STABLE (one time)

PCC/PACU/ENDO – ACLS, PALS

Salary Range: MG RN A/B/M ($42.97 - $71.46), based on experience
