Road Maintenance Worker Public Works Department FLSA: Non-Exempt Minimum Pay: $15.47 per hour JOB SUMMARY This position is responsible for participating in the repair and maintenance of county roads.
MAJOR DUTIES
Performs a variety of laboring tasks to repair and maintain county roads.
Patches holes with asphalt; smooths and levels asphalt.
Weed eats rights-of-way.
Collects litter and debris along roadways.
Flags traffic at work sites.
Operates a variety of equipment, tools, and vehicles; cleans and maintains equipment, tools, and vehicles.
Operates a variety of hand and power tools.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Performs other work as required or when directed by administration.
In the event of an emergency, all Camden County employees are considered essential and may be required to perform alternate duties.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
Knowledge of road construction and maintenance principles.
Knowledge of work safety principles and practices.
Knowledge of road maintenance equipment operation and maintenance principles.
Skill in the use of construction equipment.
Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS The Crew Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include county policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
The work consists of related maintenance duties. Inclement weather and heavy traffic contribute to the complexity of the position.
The purpose of this position is to participate in the maintenance and repair of county roads. Successful performance contributes to safe and well-maintained roads.

Contacts are typically to resolve problems and provide services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
The work is performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY None.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an
apprenticeship/internship
or having had a similar position for one to two years.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
